panda7 did you pass the send ups and who got into grinnel?

Folks, I got into McGill and UCL. Now I cant decide between these two so, if anyone thinks I should choose one place over the other, please let me know.

@Sinpreacher: WOW, many congratulations to you! There are benefits of going to both places. UCL is ranked better than Oxford in the latest Times rankings! My friend goes there and he loves it! McGill, world number 20, best in Canada AND you can easily get immigration there, which is not that easy in the UK.

If immigration is a priority, go to McGill, if you just want to study the best, go to UCL All the best!

sinpreacher: I would choose UCL over McGill, but then again it depends on what you wanna study ?

UCL all the way!!!.. Degree in 3 years and more recognized internationally. A lot of postgrad opportunities after UCl. But the ‘immigration’ thing about mcgill is true and u also usually end up with a scholarship if your GPA is high.

I would prefer McGill. McGill is ranked the best in Canada so gives you a great edge in the Canadian job market, that is if you want to work abroad.

On the other hand, UCL saves you a year which might be an important consideration, especially if you have already spent a year more in secondary education because of doing O Levels.

@sinpreacher: Well that totally depends on you. Personally I would go to UCL, ceteris paribus… I like London as a city.

I guess there are four main factors you should consider. The first is finances (if going to one place will cause your family significant financial hardship when compared to the other, don’t go there). The second is the nature of program. What does each unis program focus on and how does that tie in with your interests. Which uni’s program gets you excited about studying the course?

The third main factor is probably immigration. Do you want to settle abroad? Research immigration rules and policy rather than base it on “suni sunai” baaton of how easy it is, because immigration rules (esp. UK immigration rules) are constantly changing.

The fourth factor is degree prestige and repute. I guess this will vary depending on which country you ultimately settle in and which field you want to work in.

Lastly, you may want to consider the fact that you’ll save a year at UCL and of course you will want to consider the studying environment, weather, etc.

I would prefer UCL.The global recognition of UK degree counts…and if u ll end up coming back to Pakistan,a degree from UK will look better than a degree from Canada on ur CV!!!

Hey I heard someone from KGS got into MIT - is that so?

I am sure thats not true…have many friends at kgs …

The threads gone dead… :(

Oh by the way, this is just for your info, but McGill is more known in the Middle East than UCL. Haha they would probably think it’s some College :P

dead thread? hmm :P

Discuss hobbies? :P

Thank you all for the response.

btw if I apply for a canadian visa now then can I later apply for a UK visa too after my A-Level result?

Any idea about how much SAT II score can be considered to get into EME Electrical or thge other top merit programmes of NUST on the seat of Pakistani national???

if your sat 2 phy+chem+maths2>2200 you’ll get into nust engineering school. last year my friend who had 2360 sat 2 was second in the merit list so go figure…

May hi nai araha I want to hear from LUMS :(

@sinpreacher: There have been people in Pakistan who’s visa the Canadian embassy took months to accept or reject because they applied for it early. You apply in Jan, you’ll get your visa by July/August, you apply in June, you’ll still get it in July/August. I suppose they prioritize it. You could of course apply for the UK visa after the Canadians send back your passport =) You would need IELTS though.

You can get a visa for the UK in two weeks while the Canadian Visa takes around 6 weeks. So DO the Canadian visa and then, if you want to or are unsuccessful, go for the UK visa.

Plus, I heard people below 2100 don’t get in to LUMS in their SAT Reasoning (talking about SSE here). IS THAT TRUE??? :@
