The Official Pakistani Thread for the Class of 2014

@mohammadeht: I gave both LCAT and SAT. I sent a printed copy of my SAT 1 and 2 scores. LUMS accepts it as online score reports take roundabout 6 weeks to reach.

@mohammadeht: Listen, contact Collegeboard and say that LUMS says that they did not receive your scores. Collegeboard will probably tell you that they have infact sent them the scores, and that you should Talk to LUMS on the phone, instead of emailing them. They will then provide you with the exact name and other information with which LUMS might have received your scores. Give that information to LUMS, they’ll check their system and most probably they’ll next say that they’ve received your scores.

Afterall, the university is in Pakistan; they are bound to screw up.

All the best!

how did they told u this ???

@talaltq Amazingly, I did the exact same thing about a month ago. I stopped receiving correspondence after the College Board telling me about the scores part from LUMS. I heard from them again and this time they told me they hadn’t received my scores. Then, I heard from them AGAIN. They had my scores. Results coming out in the first week of May.

@Dark_Angel told what?

its interesting to see many people from lahore on the list - karachi doesnt seem to be very popular lol
anywys what would you guys recomend between rutgers and Purdue? anyone going three?

apart from the academics, it depends if you want to live in a rural campus somewhere in the middle of Indianna (West Lafayette) then pick purdue but if you want to be close to New York rutgers is for you. Also depends on what you wat to major in, I think purdue is quite famous for its engineering program, not sure about rutgers though :(

When i first read Lums had an acceptance rate of 19% I lol-ed
nw i feel it was a bitter truth :(

thnks Faraz thts true, though Purdue also has an extremely famous business program. I guess at the end of the day it doesnt matter tht much if ur close to the city or not as most of ur time will be spent on campus as it is. im assuimg u wre considering purdue as an option maybe?

This looks suspect. And inflated at the very least. Who/What is Huntsman? There is no school in Pak with that name, at least there wasn’t until a year ago when I used to study there.

Wharton is Penn’s business school so “2Wharton” should not be grouped with 4 LAS, 1 KGS et al.

Also, iplayforfun from Roots said that no one got into Penn from his/her school but someoene from St Mary’s did. Someone had added Saint Mary’s to an earlier version of the list but it is no longer there. For the sake of veracity of the list, can a Rootsian confirm an admission to Penn from Roots?

I am not sure about Rutgers vis-a-vis Purdue but I have heard very good things about the latter. You should carefully consider a range of factors, including the relative strength of the program you want to enrol in and finances if that is an issue. I agree though that proximity to a major city should not be an important consideration; Purdue is no more than 2 and a half hours drive from major cities, including Chicago and Indianapolis, so you can soak in the city life on weekends if you want!

PS: You seem well aware about Pak’s cities. Are you also from Pakistan?

yeh Geographical location shouldnt generally matter. Duke are youa student from the states?

Hi…anyone planning to attend LUMS SSE here?

Guys, has anyone reacieved their I20 Yet?

@The Duke of Albany: I’m glad you pointed that out. I went back a few pages and tried to see what had happened. Unfortunately, somebody had come under the false impression that “Wharton” and “Huntsman” were schools in Pakistan - I’ve fixed that though. I dont know about the Roots acceptance though, so if anybody would like to confirm that, they surely can.

Also, you asked about Huntsman. Huntsman is one of Penn’s joint-degree programs that has an acceptance rate lower than Harvard, Stanford, Yale and Co. Basically, it’s a program in international studies and business that accepts about 40 students a year. Their yield is higher than Harvard’s too.

Bump ( i seem a bumper of this thread lol)

Guys rank the engineerin colleges of Pakistan for me.( Nust seems top in ranking but every1 deny it :S ) wat about GIK ? help me out :/

In my opinion it is:

NUST

GIKI

LUMS (SSE)

UETs

The HEC ranks Pakistan Institute of Engineering & Applied Sciences, Islamabad as the best but I do not have much info about this university.

If you are looking for Computer Science only, then FAST is also a place to consider.

The thing is Panda 7 that its not uni rankings but how much you learn…faculy, labs

According to me

1 LUMS SSe
2 GIKI
3 NUST

even though lums first sse batch is yet to come…
just have a look at their website

Yeah! I think LUMS would top the list any day even though it’s not accredited by the HEC. Just look at their faculty and emphasis on research and stuff.

When LUMS SSE is included in the list, I am sure it would top it with a huge margin. After that, considering international and local rankings, I would say NUST and then UET, Lahore. Then GIKI and lastly, UET Taxila.

BUT, considering opinions from my teachers and other people I know, it is LUMS SSE, NUST, GIKI and then the UET’s…People say UET’s syllabus is very much out-of-date and the faculty members are not so supportive as compared to NUST and GIKI.

And also, @ LUMS SSE, there are not enough subjects for everyone. There’s only Electrical and Computer Science. Other than that, they have got the core subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Bio, and Maths. So if you are not loloking for one of these, you better look somewhere else.
