I wish I had it together that young. I wish I developed all those skills when my brain was more elastic.

so is anyone on here in Starting Point at Cal?

@ Most people here

IMHO, all of you CCC transfer students are smarter than those that get straight into UCB/any other UC for that matter…WHY?!:

you save a shi*ton of money

you get to live where you want (CCCs are all over the state)

Wayyyy easier to transfer than a direct ticket in (TAG to a decent UC)

you get the same degree at the end when you transfer that says “UCB/whatever UC you go to, Graduate”

you get to have more fun in high school and not stress about your GPA as much…honestly you could get below a 3 and be fine.

you transfer with essentially a clean slate (i.e. a virtual 4.0, meaning your GPA is a 4 and it goes down from there…just your units transfer from ccc)

not committed to one campus for too long (i.e. get bored at one place)

The only thing I think you guys missed out on is dorm life…but seriously I think the above positives outweigh this one negative…

Interestingly, these comments are coming from me…someone who went straight to UCI and is now trying to transfer to UCB/UCLA

@ sandaboy: Yeah, I have to admit, CCC-ing to UCB or any other UC is such a great path. I would agree that in this sense, we are sort of “street-smart”. In particular, the ones that do the premed weeders at a CCC instead of UC definitely have the right idea. I mean all the reasons you provided are spot-on. Also, I do think that we are equally as competent and intelligent as the incoming freshman class.

However, my jaw still drops when I go to the UCB forum and I read those kids’ stats. They’re seriously remarkable. I mean for 4 years they are seemingly peerless. I’m not saying we don’t deserve it, but they really work their butts off and at such a young age. lol all I cared about in high school was not going to class and playing poker.

The advantage to community college is that you can get a fresh start after being a complete f-up in high school with a 1.7 gpa like me. After taking a 3 years off, I enrolled in cc, worked really really hard and now im a legit candidate for engineering programs at schools such as ucsb, uci, cal poly pomona. (already accepted to CPP w/ a 3.5 transfer gpa) hahaha. It still makes me laugh when I think about it.

@ andy: lol I totally agree man. I have a really similar story. I dropped out of high school at 16, went to work at a publishing company in San Francisco the next semester while take CCC courses, which definitely whopped me into shape, took the GED, discovered College Confidential, and now I may be going to one of the top public schools in the nation.

Ironically, I believe that discovering College Conf. was most definitely the primary influence on my academic goals. No joke, I haven’t had a B since I’ve joined this site.

lol this is random, but I yearn for the day when I can change my location to:

HS dropout ----> discovery of College Conf. ----> UCB :)

Yes, I really want Berkeley.

That’s awesome! I have had mostly A’s, but I did end up getting a total of 2 c’s throughout my CC career lol. Congrats! That is a big accomplishment!

I was almost a hs overachiever. 2320 SATs, 2 750+ SATIIs, really great ECs,community service galore. Now the kicker was my inability to do homework(i hated it). I ended up with a 2.93 weighted gpa. yes…weighted

Let’s kick off the late night thread…

My boyfriend and I are in a massive fight on the phone, and I’ve spent the entire time reading FMyLife.com… there were several times when I had to cover my mouth to keep from laughing because of how funny some people’s lives are… a few of those times were during times when he was crying… F his life!

Oh man, that’s intense kernl lol. What are you guys fighting over? Clearly, you don’t seem too concerned considering you’re laughing at ■■■ while your bf is crying lol.

Anyways, what’s new? Any acceptances??

Lol- well he started crying (which he NEVER does!) b/c he was getting all deep- his grandpa has been really critical of his weight ever since he was 7 years old, and even now that he looks so much better, he still has family approval issues about his weight. We were fighting because he lied to me, which I don’t tolerate, but we definitely worked it out. Lotsa deep underlying issues, blah blah blah, everybody has 'em.

But acceptances??? Freaking None!! UCSB is killing me man. I’m like a junkie- just gimme one to make it to late april!!! How about you, man? Anything new?

lol damn, relationships…I’ve been cold from them for 9 months now. Best 9 months of my life lmao jk jk. I hear ya, yeah lying is not tolerated with me either. Glad you guys worked it out though!

I got into Santa Cruz, but there’s 0% chance of me going there…I’d seriously stay at my CCC another year lol. However, I’m happy I applied because its somewhat side-tracked my anxiousness from the other schools (UCB in particular) lol. I’m sure you’ll feel the same way when you get into UCSB (knock on wood).

lol as for new things, all my friends are back for spring break, and they’re killing my study habits. My spring break isn’t until next week…crazy late this year. We’ve been going out to dinner, hitting pool halls, and going to SF every day! lol my transferitis is baaaad. How about you?

hahaha cc relationship advice
tbh, although being single was fun i like being in a relationship :p

ps. everyone has issues that they need to get off their chests

@ Kernl: While reading your message the song “Heartless” started playing in my head.

Aw that sucks Kern, good to hear he’s doing better now though
dude emil! come over here, punch me out, and put me in a freakin coma until april 30! haha

@ solidblu: Dude…only if you do the same for me…and pay someone to do my homework lol.

@ SF: Yeeah, we get pretty deep here on CC. Soon enough there’ll be threads such as:

UCB: Rejected - support group.
UCLA: Why can’t I be a Bruin?
How to court at the UC’s

and, of course,

CC: struggles, stories, and sad stuff :)

I haven’t really studied for any of my exams/tests so far and surprisingly ended up with the highest score or top 3 on all of them…

I hope this continues at UCLA/CAL/USC or even UCSB.

oh btw, does anyone have a job opening at their current workplace? I got a lot of downtime with 14 units this semester. Min Wage is fine… Part-Time preferred … and Cash Payment is even better!

there should be a thread dedicated on how to pick up girls in class(not for the engineering majors, because as well all know…there are no girls in our classes). not that id need it but i think itd be useful for all you aspiring uc casanovas out there.

ps. i just thought of something. what if we arrange like a cc campus tour thing. like we can all meet up and tour cal & ucla maybe. idk. whatever. its 2 am and im delirious. haha

@ SF: Yeah man, I’m starting to flow into my usual, nightly 2 AM delirious state as well, and this sounds like a great idea! I’m down whenever. I’d actually go any day. Knowing our personalities (more or less) and our willingness/motivation to be successful at our prospective schools, I’d bet that we’d give that tour guide one hell of a tour! lol instead of vice versa.

Anyways, I’m down if we can get a group of ppl together to hit up UCB…and maybe UCLA even though it’s so far away.

Actually, I have Spring Break next week, so sometime then would be ideal for me.
