* The Official UC Transfer Late-night Discussion Thread*

ahaha Hm… Good luck finding “bigger jock type guys who aren’t all that smart” at Berkeley. ahahahaha This is the UC Berkeley of 2010, not the UC Berkeley of 1940. :P

I know… They do have a football team though…
I’m into all sorts those are just the ones who attract me that I may go after. I welcome all to come after me. Except for nerdy guys… Not in the smarts sense just in the over the top geeky kind… Don’t get me wrong they are great as friends I just don’t find myself ever attracted to them.
I really wonder how dating will be once I’ve transfered. At my cc I don’t even look at guys or attempt to talk to them because I know I’m leaving. I wonder if people actually approach people more at the universities.

kind of the same here, though I’m leaving for a UC which is right by me… so not really leaving. it’s just that most chick’s I’ve run into at OCC are… STUPID. all I’m asking for is an IQ in the 130-150 range… is that too much?

@mikei I’m not a leftist, I’m a libertarian. I don’t want to kill religion; I want it to end but only through persuasion and choice, not force. I realize how fused religion is to personal identity; it is, after all, force fed to most of us at abusively young ages when we naively associate religious teachings with everything positive (making it emotionally unlikely to change preferences at an older age).

I actually find I have more in common with religious people, being an atheist, than I do other atheists – because most other atheists pick alternative dogmas that I disagree with even more (especially considering some of their premises). Most religious people have the respect for humans that I do.

@Victoria I’m sure Berkeley has guys that’ll fit your bill. You might have to settle with a closet nerd though. This is Berkeley after all.

I don’t even think about girls either (fittingly because I’m in a relationship), but even when my relationship wasn’t serious or I wasn’t in one, I never considered dating at CC. And it’s strange because it’s like a daily sex cafeteria. I honestly think most people go to CC because it’s the daytime equivalent of a bar.

haahaaa…once again empathy, you have made my forum visit worth the time!
I live here in Berkeley and I reallt gotta say, the ladies, and the gents are just top notch…really…top shelf, black lable, the whole shabang. Smart and sexy to boot. Come, Join us!

Not mine… In a large class room you will rarely see anyone wearing anything nice enough to go to the mall. I myself dress up cute only on Thursday because class doesn’t start until 12:45…

Oh boy lmao…I just signed on here one last time to see if there was anything kinda interesting to read over…and I see we’ve begun a mild religious debate…ehh maybe not debate, but at the very least, a discussion.

I’m an agnostic because I simply do not believe a higher power can be proven or disproved, but I strongly look down upon the Catholic church. Now I’m not for abolishing all religion. Granted, many religions have positive messages/morals and parables that can help one establish a healthier lifestyle, belief system, or just be happier in general.

However, I’ve researched the Catholic church for quite some time now, and I’m appalled by the allocation of funds and how wealthy the institution itself is. Many people that I’ve spoken to about this contend that it’s the people’s choice to hand out donations or “alms to the poor” by giving to the church, however, a high percentage of them/their money is being used for other superficial purposes.

If a person wants to believe in God or a religion because they find themselves feeling more safe, secure, or at peace, so be it. Such is the nature of the early indoctrination of religion. Developing minds seek structure, answers, and security. It’s only natural to believe what one is first taught. I just wish that it was understood that as adults, if they want to follow “God’s teachings”, that they don’t need to donate tons of money to the church. Acting morally (as best as possible) should suffice.

As a kid brought up in Catholic schools, jumping from multiple religions and political parties, it’s become clear to me that one should seek their positions for themselves. Alas, seek as Siddhartha did lol! Personally, I feel that it’s important to search within oneself, reflect, learn, and grow. By doing these things, you can only become more and more acclamated with your environment and how you perceive yourself within it.

The important thing is to live a happy life. If religion does that, then shoot for it. Although, like I said, not everyone needs it.

@ victoria…having attended both a 4 year and a cc i feel like the cc’s have more of a meat market feel than the university. that being said, dating at the university can be kinda painful, as you have to get past the innitial smug intellectualism. i was sitting on campus at Cal today ( one of my bcc curses is at wheller) and this guy came up and started talking to me about my Feminist philosophy anthology and Judith Butler. it was cool at first, but then he started trying to show off his high level of knowledge on the subject and came across as actually trying to talk down to my understanding of the subject. Then he asked me for my number! srsly???

So anyone taking any fabulous vacations this summer ( I know you all are just on spring break but I don’t get one and my summer starts in less than a month)
I myself will be going on a 12 day Mediterranean Sea Cruise!

I think he said his name was Emile…lmao

Didnt read through anything, but I am pretty excited that Berkeley is supposedly full of nerds. It makes the competition for women much easier

@ sarah: ahaha thats actually pretty funny ■■■■■. Although I was at Berkeley today, I’m positive I didn’t speak with you…I know hardly anything about feminist philosophy lol.

Aww poor insecure guy. Ya what a jerk guys are in general pretty dumb at this age. I’ve mostly given up on looking. I will most likely resume my search in a couple years.
Haha I’d love for that to happen just so I could be super rude when I rejected him :)

Brazil are you a guy or girl?

I’m a guy.

@Sarah I badly want to join you guys. We’ll see in a month. I really loved it the few times I’ve been to Berkeley. You’re getting me excited when I’m likely to be let down!

@Victoria That’s the thing. No one tries because they don’t have to. Everyone is just game all the time, at least from my perspective. I can be mighty frumpy around midterms though, so there’s probably a lot of truth to what you’re saying.

oh my god. i need an acceptance letter now. desperately. i feel like a crackhead looking for a fix. i need an acceptance…although sex would probably tide me over till the end of april. i need to get laid.

@SFwarrior @victoria which schools are you waiting for/transferring to

I’ll being going to Iran over the summer, not sure how long… at least a week or two.
