"They have nuclear weapons capabilites as well, " - where are you getting your information?

no they don’t and its at least 9-10 years away, unless we push them to buy them from our friends, the Russians or the Chinese

well i have done a lot of research about ww2, throughtout my hs years, and i have found that one of the main reason for dropping the bomb was to end it.

It was also to scare Russia

So, you think bombing a country that has done nothing to us, who does not yet have the weapon, and is years away, is smart? And is a good plan?

To whomever thought “taking out Iran would be easy”, I guess you haven’t considered the fact that the Bush administration has incited the entire Islamic world. A bomb drop on Iran would mean certain retaliation, from the countries that DO have bombs…that means Pakistan, perhaps Russia, perhaps N Korea.

Taking out Iran will be the cakewalk like it was in taking out Iraq…which means under grave miscalculation…way underestimated…sure to bring a big, bad world war.

People seem to forget that the people of Iran overthrew the 5th largest military power in the history of the world, backed by the most powerful military power in the history of the world, without firing a single shot.

They are not likely to surrender their hard-fought-for democracy any easier than we would (actually, I take that back - we seem to be surrendering ours by dribs and drabs relatively easily.)

I think you took my statement incorrectly…i was just proving my evidence to Justinian that Iran may give us a hard time even though we may not think it…I referred to the bomb to prove the point that we had to take extreme meausures to stop Japan who we thought wasn’t a real threat.

If the US is smart, they’ll let Israel deal with Iran. The IDF is one of the strongest militaries in the world and has pretty much successfully fought off all of the middle-eastern countries for the last 60 years. Iran might be developing nuclear weapons, but Israel already has them. With the assistance of the US, Israel should be able to easily defeat Iran. Plus, Israel actually has a reason to attack Iran unlike the US. If the US goes into Iran it will just continue to negatively affect what little reputation we have left.

BTW, I’m pretty sure a civil war in Iraq was inevitable. The US attacks on Iraq were not the sole cause of the current civil war, but rather a catalyst.

“W” has said it himself- he is a “war President”. He along with Cowboy Dick understand such simple knuckle busting. Diplomacy? That concept is lost on them.

Iran’s “enrichment” program is years and years and years and years from reaching a point of consequence such that UN action, economic sanctions, etc. etc. have plenty of time to work or at least be attempted.

Our military is completely taxed with the present worldwide deployments and Iraq fiasco, so rather than coming to this site and worrying about college admissions, it’ll be draft time and these discussions will no longer be idle mental exercise.

Despite sooooooooooooo many reasons not to take such steps, I figure “W” and the boys will be looking to attack Iran before labor day…

Heck, as “W” always says…it’s hard work and we’re hard workers…

… You’re doin’ a great job Brownie.

1.) Iran is a THEOCRATIC nation, and if America tries to reform the govt as they are doing with Iraq, that will mean a threat to ISLAM. The Muslim world is quite divided, but they can easilly unite when they feel Islam is being threatened. Their unification would mean DOOM to America.

2.) Attacking Iran would further increse anti-Western resentment and in turn Westeners more liable to terrorism.

3.) Iran is a VERY powerful country militarilly. Don’t get angry a this FACT. The President is very anti-western and anti-Zionist and I believe he wouldnt be surprised if America invaded Iran. There is NO WAY America can face Iran without a draft, and I believe Iran would be a Vietnam 2.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4871078.stm
There is more come.

4.) Invading Iran will totally alienate America from the rest of the world. Countries like North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Pakistan, China etc may start building up their military in case they were next, and all this would further screw up America because of the tensions.

5.) Wouldnt invading Iran mean drastic reduction in the oil supply sent to the US from Mid-east and other oil rich nations? Another war would have adverse effects on the US Economy.

Bush doesn’t have the political capital to call a draft. There wouldn’t be any congressional support. That doesn’t mean that he still wouldn’t do it, but it would be political suicide (he’s close to it anyway, at this point).

Iran will be taken care of by nukes, if anything, which will unleash something really awful.

The only country that needs to be nuked is USA.

Even the retired generals who were instumental in Iraq are now saying that things have gotten too screwed up and Rummy has to go.

there’s not going to be a draft. Who is going to vote for a draft? Whoever does won’t have a job in for longer than 6 years (if you just got into the Senate). The thing politicians want the most is to be reelected, and voting for a draft will put them on the way out.

The US could pretty easily destroy most of Iran’s military from the air.

The USA does not need to be nuked. That was a pretty ridiculous statement. Iran doesn’t need to be nuked either.

There is no civil war in Iraq.

The bottom line is, the UN needs to take charge of this, and they need to do it with more than “excuse me Iran, please stop doing that.”

It’s a tough situation. My personal opinion is biased as I am a Jew who has ties to Israel. While I’m positive that Israel and America could both easily destroy Iran, military involvment could spark a world war. Nevertheless, I personall am in favor of military action. I believe it is necessary because Iran is being openly hostile and appears to be a far more dangerous threat than anywhere else, especially after President Ahmadinejad recently spoke of Israel’s soon destruction. I also hate him for his holocaust comments, as I lost half of my family at Auschwitz. And now as of today Iran promised $50 million to Hamas which will screw up our attempts at a successful economic santion. To sum it up, we need to preemtively strike Iran, and soon

^^ no we should NOT!!!
its up to the UN now…and we should let Israel take care of them…we are already in a war…we dont have enought soldiers for a war in Iran becuase this one will be more serious.
We should let Israel do the work

I don’t think the new PM in Israel will launch a preemptive strike though. Ehud Olmert reminds me a lot of Sharon’s later years. He supported the withdrawal from the Gaza Strip last August and is very into the whole peace process. I am all for peace in the middle east too, but I am also realistic. The palestinians and the rest of the middle east won’t just settle their problems with words and agreements. They’ll continue to fight their cowardly wars by throwing stones and supporting suicide bombers.

Thats why let the Israelians fight that war…It will be really hard for us to jump into a fresh new war…Our soldiers are tired and are not that strong and eager to just dive into a new war

Israel is SURROUNDED by enemies. Iran is a threat the the US. We should never have been in Iraq but we went in anyway and now we have a real threat so we have to do something about it. If Israel has to fight by itself, whill i have no doubt they would will, I would support a nuclear strike or else we are going to loose a lot of good men.

do you think we have enough troops left to fight war?
The War will be fought by UN troops since UN is very involved in this.
If we are in this war, then a DRAFT WILL done, NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT…are we ready for a war at 18 yrs old?

ok maybe I used the wrong words. I would accept the UN helping…but whenever the UN helps, the large majority of troops are american anyway.

trust me, Im 17 now. I would hate a draft. But I love my motherland, and Iran is building nuclear weapons and I have no doubt in my mind they would use them against israel. We need to do a pre-emptive strike, and Israel cant fight the whole arab world by itself
