The Worst College Campuses You Have Seen...

Gonzaga was disgusting. It was the first college tour that I had ever been on, so I was horrified that all campuses were like that. Thankfully, two days later I visited Seattle University and my faith in college was restored, as Seattle University has a beautiful campus.

Texas Tech…? You mean “most beautiful west of the Mississippi until you get to Stanford” (James A. Michener) and “easily one of the ten most beautiful campuses” (Sports Ill)?

They’ve been awarded for excellence in groundskeeping and are just generally regarded to have one of the prettiest campuses out there. Go check out the TTU wiki page.

When I was in Columbia, I expected to have a great feeling toward it.

But I never had that feeling.

The whole campus looked not bad, but the walking down the neighboring area just made me feel terrible.

Lafayette.

Texas State, just a rundown place. UTSA isn’t great either. It has boring architecture IMO.

Susgeek - why Lafayette? I attended in the 80s - and although I did not like it for other reasons - I thought the campus was gorgeous. Has it changed that much?

MIT is very old and grave looking.

University of Florida, Gainesville… horrible, widespread in the middle of cow land

Another wondering on Lafayette–seems very nice to me. And the best hot dogs on earth are just down the hill.

It’s interesting to look back a year. I shouldn’t have been so hard on UAF. Yeah, the dorms look like prison blocks, but the view is great and there are some nice trails on campus.

Gonzaga’s campus isn’t bad at all, but admittedly it’s not a lot to look at. However, some of the stairs are a bit dated and very difficult climbing :-). The campus has always been clean and the people are friendly and they have great debate and sports!
Go Zags!

Southern Illinois - Carbondale. I feel like I’m in East Berlin.

Haven’t really seen any ugly campuses yet, but guess I will when i go to see NYU? and also some CUNY’s im sure too (hunter is just buildings, bleh). To the people who have said SUNY Stony Brook… really? I’ve been there a bunch of times since my cousin goes there and the most recent time was in the fall (perhaps thats why i think this- the trees and colors of the leaves) and it was beautiful!

Another vote for SUNY Purchase. I really do hate 60s architecture, and that place is filled with it. The admissions office was the only decent building - it was a huge old house.

susgeek - do you perhaps go to Lehigh? lol

tbomb - are you sure you were at the main campus? Because this place is ugly as hell IMO! :p

I might have just been there on a bad day but there was litter everywhere. Plus, a bunch of the departments were just in small ugly houses that needed new paint. The dorms were ugly, the offices were ugly, everything was ugly, which was a really stark contrast with Seattle University.

There seems to be a strong bias on this thread against urban campuses and old buildings. I guess that cuts down on applications to the Ivy’s. LOL

I feel like people are going to kill me for this haha but I HATED Clemson. I visited last week and the town was really nice and when I saw the front of campus, I thought, “Wow, this is beautiful.” But then I went on my tour and the dorms I saw were disgusting and none of the buildings matched. It was awful.

I get that places like NYU, Emerson, and George Washington U aren’t trying to win any beauty contests, and that their charm is their neighborhood. But B.U. looks like people bent over backwards TRYING to get an award for ugliness.

Texas Tech is always mentioned as being ugly, but I’ve never seen an ugly photo of it.
