This is why CC can be a curse...but also a little bit of a blessing

<p>So here’s me last Friday, minding my own little business and browsing random threads, when I see it: a thread for a school scholarship that I’m highly highly interested in. I see that scholarship notifications were sent out two days prior to the creation of the thread (last Wednesday) by email. I have not gotten any email, so I assumed that simply meant that I wasn’t selected to be a semi-finalist.</p>

<p>I’m devastated, of course, trying to reassure myself that it simply wasn’t meant to be, there are other things in store, even though the school was definitely one of my top choices, and the full-ride scholarship would have made it very possible. I’ve already been rejected by one scholarship program (Emory Scholars), so I’m wondering if my application, teacher recs, and essays are just terrible. A miserable weekend follows.</p>

<p>Then on Monday, I receive a phone call (on my cell phone, of all things to call!) telling me that I am a semi-finalist! I’m kind of upset because I want to know why they didn’t email me earlier when they told EVERYBODY else, but bliss naturally wins out and I can’t stop grinning. I’ve got my phone interview tomorrow, cross my fingers.</p>

<p>Needless to say, just because people on this forum may have heard earlier, don’t lose hope! I guess schools sometimes stagger notification times (although who knows why - you’d think they could just send out all the emails at once). I think I’m also actually alot happier because I went through that mourning period and then BAM! SURPRISE :stuck_out_tongue: Plus getting a phone call rather than an impersonal email was a rather nice touch.</p>

<p>So yes - don’t always trust CC, because the admissions officers might just be messing with your mind.</p>

<p>Tako, this is not really about trusting CC, but about trusting your better judgment. However, when following threads about scholarships notifications that rely on emails or the plain old phone, you’ll find out that people do get the good news … a bit later. </p>

<p>The unfortunate part is that we tend to believe that the email delivery is foolproof and safe. I know people who have found an email notice in their spam folder after days of agonizing. </p>

<p>A few days of patience help keep one’s sanity. :)</p>

<p>And xiggi: Yeah, I definitely have too much faith in the email system. When Emory Scholars results came out, I got a rejection email within hours, but others didn’t get them for days. Regardless, I kept my faith in email. It’s just so convenient! So easy! So fast! Haha, I should probably not spend all my time checking CC to see when college notifications are coming out.</p>
