<p>You know an interracial/billionaire/greatest athlete in the world/infidelity/suicide/porn star/Stanford thread is at the point of no return when somebody plays the Bagpipe Card.</p>
<p>Some commentator from NY (didn’t catch who it was), when discussing the cancellation of the Gatorade “Focus” product endorsement commented, tongue-in-cheek (and I am paraphrasing), that perhaps they should have considered coupling the product with Viagra to keep the endorsement. The media seems to be having a field day with this ever-evolving news. Totally agree with MOWC that Nike sponsorship (and probably Gillette too) will go as people/corporations distance themselves from sources of bad press. (Edit: and agree with Schmaltz about the bagpipe card, LOL)</p>
<p>As long as there is no other major news item to trump this, Tiger’s escapades and fall from grace (as one commentator said) will stay front and center. Today they played the 911 call placed yesterday when his MIL was apparently having symptoms of food poisoning (according to the news). Another commentator said that Tiger will continue to lay low, using the analogy “you don’t clear the road until the avalance has finished falling”.</p>

<p>Tiger Gatorade was awful. We picked up a few bottles in a clearance stand a month ago to try it out. Powerade Zero is apparently a zero too. They were practically giving it away for 25 cents a bottle a few weeks ago.</p>
<p>I never liked the Old Tiger…he was annoyingly perfect. Then again, I’m the sort of guy who rubs dirt on a new pair of white sneakers before he wears them. Love the New Tiger, and am hoping the “Leave Britney Alone!!” guy/gal makes a sequel called “Leave Tiger Alone!!!”</p>
<p>Two things surprise me about this whole mess:</p>

<li>I thought Scandanavians (like his wife) were supposed to be all open-minded about sex.</li>
<li>My whole adult life, whenever I saw a famous married male athlete or entertainer, I never once thought the wife could be so naive as to think her husband was monogomous…I ALWAYS assumed they had a spoken or unspoken agreement that she’d get to be Mrs. Rich Celebrity Wife and he’d get to nail any target of opportunity…a JFK-style marriage. I once heard Gore Vidal say he wasn’t surprised JFK got shot, the only surprise for him was that it wasn’t a jealous husband who did it.</li>

I can’t tell if you are blaming the wife as in “she wasn’t putting out” or if you think she would be open to her husband fooling around. Either way, it is blaming the wife. Yuck. Most wives would not be open to their spouse having all this action on the side. </p>
<p>I also wonder about Woods paying off Uchitel to not give her story to the Enquirer (hush money) and what good that really was of a use of a mil (whatever she got) recently, because it didn’t really help since about 10 other women now are selling THEIR stories to the tabloids. What was one more story? He likely didn’t see all these others coming forward.</p>
<p>We had a beautiful Norwegian au pair when older s was young. She decided to get a tan out on our deck one day and did so— topless. She thought nothing of it. We had to politely tell her that such was not the custom here (much to the neighbor’s chagrin). That said, I agree with soozie that most wives, whether married to the rich and famous or otherwise, would not take kindly to their spouse having a girl in every port.</p>

<p>Growing up with a lot of kids with Scandanavian heritage, I thought that their [humorous] reputation is that they’re a fairly palid unemotional type of folks who often happen to be built either like Inger Stevens or Dolph Lundgren. So is Elin Nordegren an Inger Stevens or Dolph Lundgren? For Tiger’s sake, he’d better hope Elin is more like Inger.</p>
