Tiger Woods

Maybe some NEW sponsors will pick him up!
Ambien?
Trojan?
Las Vegas? (even though what he did there didn’t “stay there”)
Playboy?
Any more?

I don’t care whether the sponsors drop him or not. I assume Nike didn’t choose him because of his personal life, but because he is a great athlete. He still is. If he was a sponsor for the Boy Scouts, then that’s different but I boycott them already. I don’t think I have ever bought anything based on who advertises it - at least not consciously.

“I assume Nike didn’t choose him because of his personal life, but because he is a great athlete”

Sponsors back athletes because of the athletes’ athletic achievements as well as the image that the athletes portray. Tiger got sponsors because he is an awesome golfer and because he had a squeaky clean image.

I personally don’t want to help supplement the income of someone whose behavior I find to be reprehensible.

TMZ is reporting that a truck pulled up to TW’s house and removed 5 large boxes while the truck was watched by security people. No word on whose stuff is in the boxes.

What would we do without TMZ to keep us posted :)

Maybe taking out all the breakable stuff? :)

Has anyone been trough airports lately and seen Accenture consulting ads featuring Tiger Woods? The tag lines might have been a good idea at the time, but under the present circumstances, take on a new meaning, like the one that says “Its what you do next that counts”. [BrandFreak: Accenture ads with Tiger Woods sure look a bit funny these days](http://www.brandfreak.com/2009/12/accenture-ads-with-tiger-woods-sure-look-a-bit-funny-these-days.html)

“Girls Gone Wild” videos?

TW just announced he is taking leave from playing golf.

For now and ???

[Tiger Woods taking ‘indefinite break’ from golf - CNN.com](Tiger Woods taking hiatus from golf, admits 'infidelity' in Web site statement - CNN.com)

Copied from TigerWoods.com

*"Tiger Woods taking hiatus from golf
By Tiger Woods

I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children. I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage I’ve done, but I want to do my best to try.

I would like to ask everyone, including my fans, the good people at my foundation, business partners, the PGA Tour, and my fellow competitors, for their understanding. What’s most important now is that my family has the time, privacy, and safe haven we will need for personal healing.

After much soul searching, I have decided to take an indefinite break from professional golf. I need to focus my attention on being a better husband, father, and person.

Again, I ask for privacy for my family and I am especially grateful for all those who have offered compassion and concern during this difficult period."*

Trojan as one of his sponsors? I do not think so. Me thinks Tiger will be shilling for some pharma that has diagnostic tests for STDs (or treatments). :D

Bunsen Burner: But wait…he could use one of the lines from his recent quote for Trojan. You know like’s he’s trying to change his ways in the future. It fits the overall theme of redemption!

“It may not be possible to repair the damage I’ve done, but I want to do my best to try”.

I think for males under the age of 30 Tiger’s approval ratings may have, as a result of the current goings-on, recently gone up. And they are precisely the one demographic that sponsors who hire high profile athletes as front-men covet the most. And I wouldn’t be very surprised if the same applied to females of the same age group as well.

Well Tiger took my advise to take some time of to sort things out. I still like him a lot, but I can’t say I have not been disappointed with his behavior.

Which is why Nike has come out with a statement saying that they are hanging tight with Tiger. But Tiger didn’t win any majors in 2009 (coming back from knee surgery). Who knows how long he’ll be out in 2010. If he doesn’t win championships, would Nike still stay with him?

^^Yes, Nike will stay with him. Nike was not in the golf business before Tiger. They built their entire brand around him. Of all his endorsements, this is the most solid. I expect them to drop some commercials for awhile, but that’s it.

TW’s statement is a good start, but it’s about 2 weeks late! It’s also still a bit whinny towards the end when he begs for privacy. That cat, too, is out of the bag.

You hit it on the head Collegealum; there is no Nike Golf without TW, so to paraphrase another philanderer, Ben Franklin…if Tiger and the Nike Golf division don’t hang together, they’ll all hang separately.

By the way, what did you all think of the Josh Mankiewicz NBC ‘Dateline’ feature on TW last night? Was it fair?

What a mess…I really don’t understand Elin. I am not an insider, but what on earth is she thinking? What kind of marriage did she really have with all his transgressions over the past 4-5 years? Obviously he wasn’t in the relationship or committed. Was she even aware? Did she even have a clue? Maybe she really wasn’t emotionally invested. How do you not know something is wrong? I’m not putting any blame on her, but really?
I don’t buy any of those statements " i didn’t suspect my husband was having an affair".
There are always signs, even if you choose to ignore. If you are tuned in, you know.
I commend them for trying to work things out, but I said before, the marriage is not authentic IMHO. Another poster earlier hit the nail on the head. Such a controlled life from an early age, that when his dad died, he had no one controlling things anymore and he was like a emotionally stunted person. The sexual emotions of a 14 year old.

I personally don’t like the public lynching of this man, here on CC, and in the media.
Everyone is getting there 15 minutes of fame and they all deserve what they get because of it. He was a gravy train, now everyone is scrambling.
This is tragic on all levels, not a laughing matter.

In reality, you are absolutely correct. Tiger’s family is really hurting and it is not fun to see anyone hurt especially when the entire world is watching. On the other hand, it is easier to make fun of someone who is extremely wealthy than it is to make fun of some slob down the street.
