One account I read had Elin claiming that she threw his cell phone at him and it hit him in the mouth breaking a tooth. I guess a cell phone is still considered a weapon but her aim would have to be pretty good to hit him in the mouth purposely.

Eye witness testimony (I seem to recall Fla. does not extend the evidence marital privilege to domestic violence), plus corroborating physical evidence (TW’s medical condition) will usually be sufficient to support a conviction.

Unless Elin lawyered up immediately after the event, she probably has related what happened to someone.

There may have been live-in help who have some knowledge. Perjury and obstruction of justice charges can get employees, neighbors and even family members to talk.

Of course, if the jury hears testimony that Elin called Rachel and Rachel testifies Elin was screaming that she was going to make TW sorry—well…

Devil’s advocate here - where is the proof that Tiger is a neglectful, violent parent? All of his dalliances appear to be while his children were not in his custody. It’s not like he left the babies home alone to pursue his hobby.
I know in some states such grievances as adultery can’t be used in a custody battle.
With all the serious child abuse cases in Florida I find it hard to believe that Child and Family Services doesn’t have more pressing issues.
While Tiger’s alleged behavior is far from our social norms - he hasn’t done anything ILLEGAL has he?

“With all the serious child abuse cases in Florida I find it hard to believe that Child and Family Services doesn’t have more pressing issues.”

I read that Child and Family Services in Florida routinely investigates homes where there are domestic abuse allegations, and that makes sense to me.

Yes, DCF visited a physician college of mine recently. There was a “terrible twos” incident of a screaming 2 1/2 year old in a post office parking lot. The physician/mom picked up her son in the middle of a temper tantrum and put him in his car seat and went home. An elderly women took down the license plate number and called the child protection line. There was an investigation. The child had several of the tantrums in front of the worker, the mom demonstrated how she dealt with them when they were both at home or out. The older child was questioned away from the mom and confirmed that mom would just take brother home when he did this. Others were questioned. The case was closed. But not before some anxiety and stress for the family.

In Florida, anything and everything is investigated if there is any chance there is a child at risk.

quote (1) knew TW was a horn-dog, (2) should have known this or (3) “assumed the risk” of this for fame and the “high life.”
[/quote]

If ‘Ninety-eight percent of us are shocked’ (what one player said about TW’s behavior) then it’s not hard to believe that he could mislead Elin.

And personally, I wouldn’t call someone who could spend so much time away from their little kids a devoted father.

I sometimes wonder if those injuries that he’s suffered from were from golf or from his extracurricular activities. I also wonder if he’s put down those activities as business expenses and if they are valid business expenses (who knows these days?).

^^Seriously, the IRS shopuld look into his “business expenses”. I’m sure Accenture did not want to fund such “business trips”.

Your question about TW’s fitness to parent is well taken. In my state, there are cases where the court enters an injunction prohibiting the divorced parents from having sex with anyone in the house when the children are present.

Also, if the parent is engaged in prostitution (I have seen cases where the parent is the sex partner for hire), that criminal conduct outside the home could be viewed as a basis for questioning the parenting ability. I guess an argument can be made — if solicitation of prostitution is a crime in Fla.-- that if Tiger did this, this sex crime could negatively effect his parenting ability.

If you go beyond that to the point that marital infidelity disqualifies a parent from raising the child, you have the fairly common situation in divorce where, by the end, both partners have looked elsewhere for sex and neither parent would be able to raise the child.

Seems like he also made each of the women feel “special”. Pretty smooth operator.

Shallow Europa is astounded…

Not about Tiger’s infidelities. Any illusions about pro athletes’ “heroic” behavior were shattered after reading Ball Four at a tender age. (Ah, but it was ever so funny).

But somewhere on this long, fascinating thread someone claimed that there is such a thing as a golf groupie!?!?! I guess it’s just me, but the kind of guy I associate with golf is somewhere along the lines of Judge Schmales, or the Rodney Dangerfield character in Caddyshack. I’m amazed that there are multiple women who apparently want to consort with pro golfers.

And here I always thought Tiger Woods was by far the weakest link in that Gillette ad. A receding hairline and 2.5 chins at the age of 33? Riiiight…way out of the league of Thierry Henry (ooh-la-la) or Roger Federer (ausgezeichnet)!

Who would have thought I’d learn so much lurking here on a slow Monday? OK, carry on with the legal speculations while I return to work. :)

I was surprised, too, until I realized that prostitutes follow the money…

Haha, yes NSM, I’m being silly as well as snarky. I know they’re just hookers, er, uh, so terribly sorry, “sex workers.” It’s just that I can’t associate golf with anything resembling virility…although I sincerely admire their ability to play such a difficult sport.

“the total is up to 16 women now.”

If he has any respect for the game of golf, it will level off at 18, because a golf course has 18 holes, and well, ah…you know…I mean, ah…it’s just that…ah, well…see what I mean??

Re: Child protective services, to clarify - while yes, they can show up unannounced, they don’t show up without a case file being opened following someone having reported concern for abuse/neglect/risk to children sufficient to justify the opening of an investigation.

Enough with the child protective services banter…isn’t there another dead horse or anything else to beat?

^^ I liked your post better when it ended with “sorry, couldn’t resist”, Schmaltz.

It makes a statement about Tiger’s caddy, Steve Williams’, character that he isn’t saying that Woods now will be more careful with his sex life. His problems are all due to the media. Right…

Williams, who has said he had no knowledge of Woods’s alleged conduct away from the course, claimed the media had “run all over” his employer for making what the caddie described as “one mistake”. “I feel deeply sorry for the guy. In the 10 years I have caddied for this guy, he has been thoroughly gracious with the media. He has never not committed himself to the media,” Williams said in an interview tonight with Sky Sports News.

“He’s been great and he makes one mistake and they run all over the guy. I think he will be very cautious with the media when he comes back, and rightfully so.”
[Tiger Woods will be ‘very cautious’ with media after his return, says caddie Williams | Sport | guardian.co.uk](Tiger Woods will be 'very cautious' with media after his return, says caddie Williams | Tiger Woods | The Guardian)

Define “one” :p

Loyalty isn’t a character flaw. If he was selling his story to the tabloids, that would be reprehensible.
