Okay. :::::)

If Tiger weren’t married, I don’t think that his affairs would be getting that much attention. In fact, I wouldn’t care at all. What’s causing the attention is that he cheated throughout his marriage and during his wife’s two pregnancies. He also cheated while honing an image that he was a good family man. He should have had the good sense not to have gotten married.

Wilt Chamberlain claims to have bedded thousands of women. In general, no one cares.

so you’re not a “sex addict” unless you’re married? …
Poetgrl, your position is clear and I believe you have stated many times that you are not sympathetic to Tiger.
That said, I think, like you, that it’s impossible to diagnose given what we know. It may be that he is just a horny toad…and an immature jerk. Sometimes I think there is a rush to diagnose - even a need to find a medical cause for just about everything. It’s really hard to know where to draw the line…is it normal short attention span or ADD, depression or just passing sadness? I guess part of it is to look at whether or not it’s affecting or damaging your life. So maybe the Wilt example is not so far-fetched…not married…no damage…not a “sex addict”. It’s all a bit too mushy and subjective for me…but that’s just me.

Yet you have heard of it …

^ Actually, no one cares except Schmaltz.

I heard about Wilt Chamberlain because he bragged about bedding thousands of women and that brag was reported by the media. I haven’t heard details about who the women were, what they did, etc. nor do I care. I think what he did was stupid, but it’s his business. It’s not like he was carrying on those affairs while being married or promoting a squeaky clean image of himself.

Wow…97 pages…this thread has staying power!
How appropriate given what Tiger’s many mistresses report about him…:)

Toneranger! first you say, “hoochie mama” and now this ^^^^^^ All of you are really cracking me up. I’m glad Tiger’s kids aren’t college age. Let’s try to have this thread gone in 14 years or less. ;)

Now I’m having self-esteem issues because Tiger didn’t sleep with me.

poetgrl:

This is correct, but what I said about it being a brain disease rather than a mental illness is also true.

The psychological and social aspects of addiction are a direct result of its biological origin. Addiction is unique in that all three aspects (bio-psycho-social) need to be treated equally. There are psychological and social aspects to, say, Parkinson’s, but not in the same way. A dopamine deficiency causes the midbrain to highjack executive functioning. Addiction is a disease that can basically speak to you in your own voice.

I know I am correct about the brain disease versus mental illness thing, because I was actually quoting a prominent medical doctor who is extremely knowledgeable on the subject. I am not posting a link here because this was something that was said to me personally (so I guess you’ll have to trust me on that, but I am sure there is other support for it out there on the net). I may not be explaining what he said in the best way - I am not an MD.

Maybe Tiger’s problem is that he is just too competitive. Perhaps he wanted to best Chamberlain as well as Nicklaus.

Hasn’t his game been getting worse?

“In his 1991 biography, A View From Above, Wilt Chamberlain wrote that he had had sex with approximately 20,000 women.”

I wouldn’t wish any form of addiction on anyone, even sexual addiction. However…

If I had to pick some people to acquire sexual addiction in exchange for saving the world (say, from a meteor or plague or something), and if that disease would manifest itself as including middle-aged women to the exclusion of everyone else, these are the poor folks I would have on my list that I would choose to suffer:

Liam Neeson
Denzel Washington
Gerard Butler
The Rock
and
Harry Connick Jr.

I would NEVER have chosen Tiger Woods.

spideygirl - I like you list though I would probably add Clooney to it.

well - Clooney is single with no kids so gotta go with him. Not sure about the others…although I feel like I knew Liam’s wife so couldn’t get over that. Poor guy.
Anyway, can’t wait to see George’s movie.
How ARE we gonna keep this going for 14 years? We need some new scoops!

People Magazine sez:

[People: Elin Nordegren to Divorce Tiger Woods – Daily Intel](<a href=“People: Elin Nordegren to Divorce Tiger Woods - Slideshow - Daily Intel”>People: Elin Nordegren to Divorce Tiger Woods - Slideshow - Daily Intel)

will the count perhaps be up to 20,000 in 14 years ? how many days (or nights) is that from now? will we all continue to be on “tw watch?”

good for her. She will be taken care of financially and now have a chance to date other men who might actually be faithful to her. Staying with him would be a continuing spectacle and people wanting to talk to her about the marriage. A clean break will do her good.

I don’t feel sorry for Tiger AT ALL.

i’m with you sue…
