I’m not sure what “a lot of makeup is”, but I do wear everything I have. Lipsticks I switch out winter/summer. Sometimes things get thrown away when they just don’t work out. I weeded thru my makeup today and got rid of brushes, some makeup, etc. that I don’t really use and makes it hard to see what I have.
But I love makeup, like deb22. I actually bought my first expensive eyeshadow palette yesterday. It’s a Tarte Clay something. My son’s GF has it and her eyes were beautiful. Like I had mentioned above, I get confused with how to wear all those colors. She showed me what she does and said you can find YouTube videos of your particular palette!
abasket - I have developed a pretty rigid skincare routines since discovering Angie Hot & Flashy on YouTube two years ago when I was prepping for headshots. I have 3-4 step AM and PM routines.
For makeup - I have some brands I picked up during my pre/headshot research and stuck with (Benefit brow brush/color) and others I’ve used for years (Bobbi Brown cream blush). So I’m pretty happy with things from a purchasing, storage, and environmental perspective.
Note that I use waaay less make-up than Angie Hot & Flashy :). Mainly directing my money and purchases to enhancing skin quality to the extent that I can (and saving for Botox lol).
Here are the skin care routines. They look like a lot but take just a few minutes.
Also tried the Bayfree cream blush ($13 on Amazon!) and have to say it’s almost as good as the much more expensive Bobbi Brown cream blush. Has a bit more reflective quality than Bobbi’s and doesn’t last quite as long but I like it a lot!!
I’ve been enjoying this thread, and since it started I’ve been watching some of the videos (Angie, Erica Taylor and Risa) and trying some new products. I have been wanting to mostly work on under-eye concealing and reducing creasing, although I’ve also come to realize that some creasing is inevitable with my 56-year-old eyes. For the products, I have recently added some pricier products as well as drugstore or lower cost items.
Since I already really like my It cosmetics foundation (with spf), I decided to splurge on the It Confidence in a cream as well as the Bye Bye redness color correcting cream since they were on sale a few weeks ago. I really like the feel of the confidence in a cream but I think the redness corrector doesn’t really add much to the foundation and may be a little drying for me. I also wonder if either of these is causing some breakouts so I need to test that.
I also got a small starter tube of the Tarte shape tape concealer and I like that a lot, a bit better than the It concealer.
Following the advice of some of the videos I knew I had to really moisturize well under the eye before the concealer and not put a layer of foundation under the concealer. I also needed some new products to help reduce creasing, but I didn’t want to spend a lot. After reading a bunch of reviews, these are some of the things I’ve tried that are inexpensive.
Wet n wild prime focus hydrating primer serum (use mostly under eye and on lid)
LA girl color correcting primer (for under eye)
Nyx matte finish setting spray (apply a little with brush)
Wet n wild setting powder
I also read about the daily face sunscreen at Trader Joe’s that is supposedly very similar to the Goop product and I like that a lot. It works well under foundation and seems pretty hydrating. That’s my update!
For those of you who have unwanted beauty products that meet their criteria, Project Beauty Share takes donations of all kinds of things. I just recently filled one of those flat rate USPS boxes and shipped a bunch of stuff I no longer needed or wanted - primarily hair products that didn’t work out for me.
Thank you for sharing this information.
The food pantry I volunteer at will not accept opened products so we are always tossing partially used bottles of shampoo, etc.
Now that we have a makeup thread, we need a fragrance one as well. I’m obsessed with finding a new signature fragrance and I must have spent hundreds of dollars ordering samples only to come up empty.
I would love to simplify my make up routine. I really would. However, I have pretty severe under eye circles that are genetic and seemingly can not be completely covered by anything. I have tried so many concealers, color correctors, etc. in so many shades (peach, red, pink, yellow, neutral, etc.) and while I am able to mask it some–the darkness bleeds through. I have to layer different products on to mask it and that is what takes me a long time each morning, especially since I have to watch out for creasing, etc. If I did not wear make up, it would look like I just got punched in the eyes.
I have gotten advice from the Sephora and Ulta ladies and make up counter ladies, but nothing recommended ever really works all that well. I figured perhaps it was my technique, so I have watched You Tube videos to see what others use/do and nothing works all that well for me. I know I need to color correct and then conceal. I just can’t find a color combo that works for me.
I definitely understand the concept of canceling out the darkness with a corrector, but my under eye discoloration is so incredibly weird. It’s not really blue or purplish. It is more like red, brown and some blackness. The IT Cosmetics redness corrector helps the most, but does not cover things completely, since there are multiple colors that need correcting (hence my layering).
Do any of you have this issue and if so, what product(s) do you use and how do you apply it/them?
@conmama I love those Tarte palettes. I have never purchased one because I figured I’d not know which colors to put together. I did not know that there are You Tube videos that address each palette! I may go ahead and purchase a palette!
Our local pantry is the same way. When my aunt passed away we had to get rid of probably 25 Costco sized boxes of Depends - each one opened. I have no idea why there were so many opened boxes but I guess no one her skilled nursing home really cared. My local pantry wouldn’t accept them but I found and emergency shelter that was happy to have them.
Have you donated products to this group. I was a little confused reading the criteria. Mostly I have face-care products that I don’t want anymore, but most of them have been opened and used. If I read correctly, used face products are ok if there’s still 75% left?
I just ordered this in the non-riche version. I hear good things!
The skin care/make-up stuff isn’t an issue for me but the hair stuff…
I try to pass some of that on to my daughters and I also try to get travel sizes first to make sure I like it. I have complicated hair and find that on average 8 out of 10 products don’t do what they say they’ll do for my hair, despite rave reviews.
I’m a minimalist for skin care - I refuse to do more than 3 steps and I’ll never be a mask, toner or peel person. I’m tired at night and just want to get through wash/serum/moisturize and go to bed
Yes I have donated to them and yes you can send open products. The caveat is they can’t be packaged such that you touch the product. For example, moisturizer that comes in a tub that you dip your fingers into it has to be unopened but one that comes in a pump bottle is fine.
For packing, I bought a package of thin sanitary pads to use as filler since the pads protected the items during shipping and they accept them for distribution.
Kohls coupons/deals are not good at Sephora. But I do have coupon and store credit to use in other departments. Will be scanning these deals to see if I should stop at Sephora too. I did try Nars under eye concealer - a bit of improvement but wanting to maybe try another brand.
I’ve used the non-Riche version too, I really like to. Ordered the riche by mistake this time. Will probably go back to the non-riche when I’m done with this one. I’m a minimalist in this area too, but have a rule that I need to use something up before I buy something new. Hope you like it!
I would love to know what non-allergenic, natural fragrances people have found and enjoy. In recent years strong scents give me a headache and sometimes make my throat itch and make me feel like I might not be able to breathe. Thinking that can’t be good. But, would love to be able to use a light, natural scent…
