To The Ladies: How Do You Wear Your Leggings?

I was thinking how I really would like to try something on before ordering because most of the Athleta clothes look like they are made for tall/thin/fit people and not shorties like myself. You can imagine my delight when I found that there is a store in the mall closest to me! Yay!

I am at work wearing this Boden knit dress/tunic. [Peter Pan Collar Dress WH559 Tunics & Kaftans at Boden](http://www.bodenusa.com/en-US/Womens-Tunics-Kaftans/WH559-GRP/Womens-Grape-Peter-Pan-Collar-Dress.html)

I just got it in the mail. It is so comfortable and cute. Hits about 5 inches above my knee and I have some patterned Lulu Wunder Under leggings with it and some black booties. I have a professional (lawyer) job at a business casual company and I get a lot of compliments on my clothes- even from men. I feel so comfortable in this dress and the leggings. That helps!

That is a really cozy dress, MOfWC! How does Boden stuff run size-wise? Do they stick to the true British sizing standards or do they size their clothing more like US brands?

My Athleta dress came in the mail along with a free Luna bar inside - score!! Like the dress a lot - tried it on with my leggings and flats and 16 yr old D gave me a big thumbs up. I personally would have loved for it to be 2-3 inches shorter but its good. Very comfy.

Also tried on a short sleeved sweater dress in grey that I already had and it looked good with leggings as well.

As I am someone who has to take baby steps to winter clothing (because I’m really a summer girl) it is TOUGH for me to transition to being so “covered up”!! Today I graduated from nothing on my legs with a dress to tights with a light jersey skirt and a v neck shirt and light 3/4 sleeve cardigan - may try and break out one of the leggings outfits tomorrow.

Bunsen- I think it is more British sizing. I buy a 2 US and I got a 4US (8 British) in the Boden things. I also got the 4P (petite) so it is shorter. All the other dimensions were the same. I think they were out of the 4 Regular but I think the Petite is better (I’m 5’4") for leggings. I got a pink flowered Boden silky dress for my mother’s memorial service this weekend (she hated black) and also got a 4 (Regular) and it’s perfect. At Limited I would have gotten a 2.

I’ve never scored a luna bar in any of my orders, wow!! You’re special abasket!! I bet you are going to love the dress and leggings.

Do not neglect their sale section. I’ve done really well on end of season items. Some of my favorites from last season are now marked way down. This dress is so festive in red I wore it for both Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. Online it looks short, but I’m 5’6" and it’s right above my knees. Also, IMO the model in the blue is wearing a size too small. It’s very cute with a little more room in the skirt as the silhouette shows. That’s what makes it different from your typical sweater dress.

Athleta;

Thank you, MOfWC! I think I will go for a petite, too.

blueiguana, that is a cool find! I acually think the model in blue looks better. I really like both the color and the price, too! I’m just a bit hesitant - more room in the skirt would be a deal breaker for my runner butt. :(

abasket – thumbs up from your D? High praise! :)

I feel like we are all enjoying ourselves (on the thread, and in our clothes) and I haven’t felt that way about clothes in a while. For work, I always feel like I have to look really corporate, but I’m self-employed, so it’s not like someone’s going to fire me for what I’m wearing.

I love all these cute dresses and I can feel everyone’s joy in wearing them.

My dress came in the mail yesterday and I opened it up – no Luna bar – so I figured abasket got one because she started this thread. Then I saw it! Fell out of the packaging.

I got the luna bar too! My d ate it when it hit the counter. Now I just need to get a pair of boots that fits and is comfy - I’ve already bought and sent back several to zappos.

Haha on the Luna bar! I did think that it was a little odd to send food with clothing!!

Wore leggings for the first time to work yesterday with a sweater dress and flats. I felt totally comfy and felt I looked appropriate. Don’t expect to get a lot of feedback at work cause as I mentioned earlier, all the ladies I work with dress…um…in either not attractive stretchy pants, pleated 90’s pants, body hiding sweaters and “sensible” shoes!!

Apparently I can’t let this discussion die!!! Just came across this article and thought it was interesting to see the 5 “looks” she put together to wear with leggings. I’ll admit that many of the styles are not me, and that I would only replicate look #3 - leggings with a short dress.

I got back from a girls trip to Chicago. Bought a pair of flat riding boots to wear with leggings. Tried shorter and taller boots and decided that the short boots cut me off and made me look shorter than I am. I had them shipped home so I didn’t have to schlep them home on the train and can’t wait to wear them.

Abasket, thanks for the article. I liked outfit 1 also. I might wear it with my ponte leggings though.

Funny thing. All my friends on trip said that they had never heard of many of the stores I wanted to visit. I didn’t tell them that I have my friends on the internet to thank! :)

abasket - don’t worry about your not letting this discussion die. I just got an email this morning that they’ve now opened an Athleta store in a suburb I go to once a week… guess what days… yes, Wednesday! So guess where I’m heading tonight before my meeting? I’ve never been in one of their retail stores!

Deb922, did you impress your friends with your new store knowledge??! ;)

Did you like any of the stores in particular? I love finding a new favorite store because honest, I’m picky about where I shop!

Funny. When this thread started I looked up Athleta store locations. There is not one near me but there is one where my D lives. I am going to visit her soon and I already told her I want to visit the store.

I liked outfit #2 the best provided the top is long enough to cover your derriere.

Made it to Athleta tonight, but only had about 30 minutes before I had to leave to be somewhere, so it was kind of rushed. That might have been a good thing. I did some damage in 30 minutes.

I did one cursory walk through the store, then went back through again to pick out things to try on. I kept thinking, “Where are the dresses?” But I didn’t see them. I started thinking that maybe since it was a brand new store, maybe they didn’t have all their inventory yet. It was after I tried on things and walked out of the dressing room that I saw all the dresses hanging back in the dressing room area. So I took a very quick look through them. Saw some really cute ones, but they were all much longer than I wanted, hitting at right above the knee. Because I’d already found other items, I decided I didn’t need to spend any time or money on the dresses… perhaps next time I go back I will look at them more closely.

So this is what I ended up with:
[Privacy Policy | Athleta](Athleta)
I got this one in the blue space. It comes down plenty long to cover my rear.

Also got two of these, in the charcoal heather and chalk blue heather
[Privacy Policy | Athleta](Athleta)

Then I got these jeggings in the blue denim:

The first top listed above has to be one of the most comfortable tops I’ve ever tried on. Am now thinking I should have gotten two of them.

Very cute! Glad they’re comfy! Sad they look WAY too warm for HI. :)

I love that first one. The blue color is beautiful, too.
