To The Ladies: How Do You Wear Your Leggings?

I really like those, Teriwtt. You done GOOD!!!

Quick report: I finally got the right size of this dress and leggings, after first ordering the dress a size too big, and then ordering a size too small. The dress is great: cozy, warm, looks good with the leggings, easy to bicycle in (which I am about to test as I ride to the post office to send the other two back, finally).

Been looking at the first top teriwitt in the catalog. Glad to hear that it is as cute and comfortable in person as it looks in the catalog. Question about the jeggings, what does the fabric look like? Are they like a denim fabric or knit fabric that looks like denim? Hope that make sense.

Beware. The first Athleta top is 28.5" in length in the back, in size medium. That could be short for many women. If I were buying a top and wanted it to cover my rear, I’d go for 32" or so. YMMV, depending on how tall you are and how long your torso is. If you are short, or long-legged, you’re probably good to go with that top, but I notice it doesn’t cover the model’s butt.

Ordered a few different style sweater dresses today:

I’ll see how they look on when I get them.

Eyemamom- the sweater dress looks nice but long. I sometimes like to get the petite in a size up at JJill just to get it a tad bit shorter. I am just over 5 ft 5 1/2 inches tall.
I like that Athleta top. I will look for that when I make my store visit in a few weeks.

Listed as 1 of 25 things every woman should know…CC threads on the cutting edge, yet again~LOL

“4) Leggings, no matter how much we wish, will never one day magically transform into pants. Wearing them with tops that don’t cover your bum is not cute. Please, please, please stock up on pants.”

Yes, it makes sense! I actually did a Nordstroms run a week and a half ago and got some jeggings… they are more of a denim fabric. These from Athleta are more of a knit fabric that looks like denim. The ones from Athleta (I’m wearing them right now) are a bit more comfortable than the ones from Nordstroms that are more like denim. But the ones from Nordstroms are very comfortable, too; they just don’t aren’t as snug at the ankles as the Athleta ones are.

When you’re looking at that top, notice the thumb holes in the sleeves. I love warm tops with those… helps keep my wrists warm when I’m outside. But I live where it can get very, very cold so they’re very much appreciated.

That is a lot of shopping in 30 min, Teri! Awesome job! Now all you need is that red scooter pictured in one of the photos. ;)

I did some damage, too, during the recent Saks ff sale. Got a pair of leggings that I’m wearing to work today, with a turtleneck and a cashmere cardigan that is about as long as a dress. I know, leggings at work - totally scandalous, as my baby kiddo would say. I also got a pair of leather leggings that do not look like leather (soft and not shiny). Those will be reserved for travel to colder locations (such as Scandinavia) and going out!

I have a meeting at the U, and my lunch hour plans are: Sushi at the Village and a quick run to the Athleta store.

Thanks teriwitt. Very helpful. And I love tops with thumb holes and if I don’t want them too long I fold them up. Really really like the top. Now to decide which color…

Trying to decide if I should order or wait until I’ll be near a store in a couple of weeks.

Hoping this thread isn’t dead yet!
I finally managed to go to an Athleta store. Loved the dresses, but most looked better on the hanger than on me. I am thin with wide shoulders and hips. The dresses that I liked the most were baggy around the middle and seemed not to fit my lanky frame. Or, alternatively, if I had narrow hips, I could have worn a smaller size. I bought the Cassidy dress, not the most exciting, but it fits me and is wicked practical. Had to laugh because I often wear 1/4 zip sweaters and buy them for family members. This dress is a longer version of my Ibex shak–a 1/4 zip sweater.

Later, I noticed that Title Nine has a nearly identical dress at a lower price point. Has anyone compared the quality of Title Nine dresses to the Athleta dresses?
Sometimes it is worth it to pay more, sometimes not.

I am considering this Horny Toad dress:

Merlin- I am hoping to get to a Athleta store this weekend. I have never been to one.
I don’t know about Title Nine but have had several Horny Toad pieces and the quality is nice.

No Title Nine around here! The Horny Toad dress is cute but I would have trouble with the deep V - neck - that one looks really deep!!!

I bought a horny toad dress at Rei & I see that the patagonia margot dress that I bought marked down at Rei in Sept., is still regular price at title nine.
Some of the title nine dresses I really wanted to like, but they used synthetic when you would expect a cotton knit, or the dresses seemed to be cut pretty sparingly, no flow.

I wish that somebody besides the swim shop for the cruise set, would carry swim suits year round though.I like to be able to try them on.

The Athleta store I went to is near my sister, who I was visiting in NJ. There is no store near my neck of the woods. I was a bit surprised at the number of older women who seemed very comfortable wearing Athleta clothing that showed every flesh roll. I think I got a little bit spooked, not wanting bulge over my undergarments --at least not knowingly. Even skinny women of a certain age can look bulgey in some of the sweater dresses.

Abasket, enjoy your trip to Athleta and let us know what you buy or like. I really liked the Hot Toddy dress, but it just looked shapeless on me.

Horny Toad is pretty good. The fabrics are lighter weight and some of the styles are more drapey than Athleta. There is a Horny Toad outlet near me, so I shop there frequently. The HT fetching dress does have a pretty deep V neck. I do not have a cleavage to support that style unless I wear a push up bra, or one with cantilevered arch construction.

I have this horny toad dress in the blue leaves print.

If size small is not huge, it should be perfect for wearing over a long-sleeve tee and leggings.

This is for HIMom: you will love your CK Costco jeggings! They felt like I was wearing PJ pants during my recent transatlantic flight, but looked pretty classy with a long sweater and boots! :)

That’s cute, Bunsenburner. My saggy arms would spoil it though!!!
