Today's reminder that I'm OLD

Pot smells in public is one of my pet peeves. I can’t stand the smell and it actually makes my daughter break out in a rash.

Around here, it seems that most users have switched to edibles, since smoking (anything) seems to be less common these days.

My ill son’s roommate smokes a lot of pot. The housing manager told him he cannot smoke inside the apartment, but I’m not sure he’s complying with that instruction. Whenever I walk in the apartment, the smell is obvious. It could just be the odor on his clothes. Blech.

We have friends in MA who smoke a good bit. The man goes up to his office and kind of hangs out the window when he smokes to keep the smell down. Uh, it doesn’t work…

We turned down a country road last weekend to go to a farm market. We were hit by an unbelievably overwhelming skunk smell. It was a huge outdoor cannibis farm. Holy cow, it was stinky.

P.S. It sure does smell different than it used to.

I actually like the smell. When I go into New York City – which I do about twice a month – it’s everywhere!

I like the smell as well though I’ve never smoked it. Reminds me of undergrad. Good times.

So funny that >90% of yesterday’s posts in this thread were about pot!

Received a “save the date” for my 50th HS reunion next year. Will need an adult beverage or two this evening to firmly reimplant my former mental image of myself.

I was listening to a podcast today and one person was explaining the plot of Back to the Future to the other. Apparently there’s a musical on a cruise ship now. For an entirely new audience that never saw the movie!

We watched old movies or tv shows in my youth? Do they not do that anymore?

I went to my 10 year and skipped 20, 30, 40, and 50. No interest in going back to Texas for any reason.

OMG, I can’t believ they never saw the original? I keep thinking I can find free streaming of old Doris Day movies, but the few that they do stream are $$. Need some free good old fashion Saturday afternoon movies on a TV channel with ads (bathroom break, coke and chips refill) I can watch.

The more I think about it I guess I can see why that happens. Even my youngest (30 yo) doesn’t have cable, he has never watched TV since he left for college - he streams everything - entertainment by appointment. We saw old movies because the TV was on and they were filler before current TV shows were scheduled to broadcast. The kids today don’t get any filler. I did make my youngest watch classic movies when he was on break a few times in college - he loves that he did that now because he has a reference to different things when people are talking - it’s like “oh yeah, I get that now.” Funny, his favorite was Shenandoah and he became a huge Jimmy Stewart fan and had to watch all his shows after that.

Ds2 does. He makes it a point to watch classic movies and read classic books. He just got us to watch The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and got his dad to read Moby Dick. No thanks to that one!

Funny, though … we just spent some time with his gf, 27, and we were talking about so many movies that she’d never seen. I’m talking A Few Good Men and Moonstruck, not obscure ones.

We had movie nights at our house all summer long when the girls were young. We watched all of the old movie classics (think Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, The Thin Man). One summer we did Alfred Hitchcock movies - Rear Window, The Birds, Vertigo. All the 80’s movies by John Hughes, Back to the Future Movies and many others that H and I saw when we were dating in the 80’s. My girls have great movie knowledge compared to others their ages.

They had a henna artist at the library doing tattoos on teens. The tattoo on my wrinkled hand doesn’t look half as good as the ones on the nice smooth teen’s skin!

I am planning to go to Bryant Park (Manhattan) to see a tribute concert for Sly and the Family Stone. I tried to explain to many, many people, young and old, who they were, usually without success even if I sang a few bars.

Well, that says more about those people than you!

My hands have so many spots on them the henna artist would only have to do half their work!
