^^ Coming in or going out?

Going out! Roxbury Latin is probably up there. TJHST probably too. Where else? and Links?

at the severn high school open house (severna park, md) they said their sat score was 1280-1320.

erm. I’m imagining that the top few dozen have scores above 1400. Based on a bit of research, roxbury latin’s is 1445. Excellent. Where else has an average of over 1400? None of these fancy boarding schools do.

Actually, the RL 2006 class average SAT scores were 740 V and 740 M. Other Boston area day schools over 1400 were Winsor (710 V and 720 M) and Commonwealth (710 V and 700 M). BU Academy usually runs above 1400, but I didn’t have recent data handy.

what about all the super fancy nyc private schools?

But if one is choosing schools, the issue may be added value, and then what scores students had before they enrolled can matter. For example, if an eleven-year-old can get a perfect score on one SAT section, and a respectable score on another (I know more than one real-world example of such students), then where should that student go to high school?

That may well be true. But its very hard to measure value added, and if anything, the fancier schools will have less value added because they are more difficult to get into, and so probably admitted kids who would have scored higher on the SAT anyways. I am not talking about choosing schools, because I am also interested in comparing day and public schools from different areas. thanks though

^ i like your user name.

Thank you! I like yours!

i dont! i dont really like green day anymore lol.

Most of the super fancy private schools have averages over 1400. I think mine has 1450.

My alma mater had an average of 1350. Good ol’ Georgetown Prep is more known nowadays for its lacrosse team than its academic prowess. (Though it’s not too shabby at academics either.)

The best prep school in the NH seacoast area. Hmm, Exeter!
It can be a day school in my area.

Valawe, you have a point. I guess if you’re fortunate enough to live in the area of bs, it can be a day school. Of course you have to exclude St. Paul’s, St.Andrews, and Episcopal. You would still have some great choices.

Any suggestions for New Jersey?

How about any for Long Island, NY?

I know that Pingry and Ranney are good.

Long Island doesn’t have too many private schools, but we have a lot of parochial. The only private school I know of is Waldorf, which my friend goes to, but I wouldn’t recommend it. However, the public schools are pretty fabulous all over LI, especially in Great Neck.
