Tuition Exchange for Fall 2024 (Class of 2028)

Last year there appeared to be a change. I suspect because of the increasing number of applications they are receiving. I know of two students who were eligible and applied for TE who were accepted but did not receive it. If you go back to last year’s board, you will see comments about it.

I just looked on the TE website and it says the following:

“There are approximately 40 spots available for students to receive a Tuition Exchange grant at Syracuse University. Tuition Exchange is competitive and students are chosen for Tuition Exchanged based on institutional priorities. Students applying for Early Decision are given preference for the Tuition Exchange scholarship.”

Do you know when will Pitt decision come out? Thanks.

They are normally out by now. I am beginning to think there may be an overlap between students eligible for this and those eligible for some other awards (stamps, chancellors, etc). The selection committees are different for each of these (I think). If a student is on multiple lists, they may be waiting to see how they do on the scholarship front before deciding on TE. But this is total speculation. I probably would have a better chance of predicting the winning lottery numbers (if only).

It used to be that almost all accepted to Cuse through TE would get set rate (which still left 20k in tuition plus r/b). My freshman received 20k in merit for music talent however thus covering full tuition.

My son received two TE waitlist notifications this week. So disappointing.

Sorry to hear about the waitlists. Do you mind sharing what schools you have heard from? And, I’m curious if the TE website still shows a “Awaiting Import School Decision.”

I may reach out to some schools to see where they are in their process. It seems like many schools have already given the first round of offers…

This is new language. SU wasn’t this transparent last year.

So I emailed Duquesne and quickly received a response that they moved the date and will be selecting students sometime in March. I think FASBA is really throwing a wrench in things this year.

My daughter interviewed at Pitt last week for STAMPS/Nordenberg. They had more interviews on Monday. Told the students they would be notified in the next week or so. It seems like they may announce those, TE, and Honors all at once. Two years ago we heard about Honors college admissions today. But again who the heck knows at this point. @bonnieyd

This is a bummer that ED would be given preference for TE. It would be one thing if they had EA but ED is too much of a risk for such a high priced school.

I agree, my son is really hoping for Syracuse and if applying with the promise of TE we might have considered ED, but there is just no way we could take that risk without the promise of TE, it would be impossible.

Thanks!

Thank you for sharing that. I was wondering if FAFSA might be playing a role. Unfortunately we’re hung up on creating an FSA ID for my son. We keep receiving an error message that his info can’t be verified with Social Security… which we contacted and verified everything is correct. Can’t reach a live person at fafsa to help. Hopefully we can get it resolved soon! I know we’re not the only ones experiencing fafsa frustrations.

We have heard from Valpo, Florida Institute of Technology, University of St Thomas (MN), and MSOE.

We didn’t get an email directly from MSOE. My husband got an email from TE saying there was an update in the application status. We checked, and it said waitlist. St Thomas still says waiting on a decision in the TE portal even though we got an email about the waitlist. My son inquired about his spot on the waitlist and he’s #1. St Thomas had over 100 applicants for TE and only 6 spots.

Some schools are delayed because of FAFSA. We got an email from Drake saying that they consider need when giving out the TE scholarships. Marquette says they use merit but both EA and RD applicants are considered. It looks like Marquette usually announces in early March.

I’m having FASBA issues too. It was submitted without my signature and I can’t correct until the form is processed… I’m guessing that will not be until March at this rate :sob:

Also, received a second reply from Duq. Over 200 applications submitted and they typically award to fewer than 10 students.

Good luck with St. Thomas!

Appreciate all the feedback - it is helpful to understand where schools are in their process.

Thank you for sharing the Duq info. That little bit of insight into the number of awards vs applicants is very telling. I shared the updated notification dates with S24, and he said “well, it’s almost March anyway, so no big deal”. I’m glad atleast one of us is patient!

Wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.

D24 received a TE offer from a school, but it had a deadline of just 3 weeks to make a deposit to accept the award.

This was a surprise, as the other schools have only mentioned the May 1st deadline or none at all. For those that didn’t give a day, we assume it is also May 1st, as it mentions on the TE website.

We were trying to fit in another tour to this school and a second top choice before the deadline, but aren’t going to make it in time.

Wow, this doesn’t seem right at all. I have not had that experience yet. We have received full TE and partial TE so far.

Is this school offering full tuition. How much is the deposit and is it refundable?

I understand them wanting to try and find out who is excepting the award but this doesn’t seem fair to me.
