Have you asked for extension?
PS Duquesne sent us a package many weeks ago. It’s a CSS school.

At least I thought it was. I thought they were CSS but not the add-ons.
Duquesne sent the financial aid package yesterday afternoon and it’s still unaffordable. However, they requested we upload “competing scholarships and merit.” I’m not sure if that will actually make enough of a difference but it is worth a try!
No extension on the home institution- still have a few days!
Duq is expensive. I looked at it too without TE for my daughter. Based on 23-24 tuition I considered it a maybe, but then when I factored in the 24-25 rates it was a definite no-go. One thing to consider is that your son could move off-campus at some point and that could help reduce the overall COA.
D24 just committed to College of Wooster today with a TE and we put down her deposit. She’s excited and thrilled. This should free up a TE slot at the following schools for those of you on a waitlist: St. Lawrence U, Dickinson College, and University of Scranton.
I’m happy to report that my son will be accepting his TE at Syracuse University which stacked the scholarship with his merit award to come in at full tuition. Feeling incredibly grateful for this benefit. I will have three kids in college next year all on full tuition TE scholarships
It’s nice to hear that it works for people. Thank you for sharing and congratulations!
I would so much rather have $21k a year at the school of their choice.
Twin A committed to Richmond and Twin B committed to Dayton–both received the tuition exchange at set rates, but Twin A received an additional grant that made the choice possible. I love that Dayton locks in their tuition so at least we know that it won’t increase.
I am beyond grateful that this worked out. To say it has been a stressful process is the understatement of the year. I am also grateful to have found this group, whose support and advice has been invaluable.
I know the hard work that you and your kiddos have put into this process–crossing my fingers that all of you on a waitlist have the school you want come through.
Free tuition at our home institution, but only $1500 a year to the school of your choice if you don’t get TE. I suppose every little bit helps. However, that amount hasn’t changed in the 10+ years I have worked here.
We were informed yesterday that they filled all 30 slots at GW.
Congrats in the acceptances for your twins! Do you have any insight on getting TE at Dayton? I have D27 and D30 to look forward to as well. It seems they really value an in-person visit but also only award a small % of TE. I’m assuming stats for acceptances are on the high end.
Thank you! I think Dayton puts a lot of emphasis on demonstrated interest. This was the case with S21 and was the case with Twin B. S21 did an in-person visit and also a few virtual sessions (this was during Covid), including meeting with a professor in his area. Twin B did the same: toured campus the spring of his junior year, met with an admissions counselor this summer (virtual), made another visit in the fall, attended a local event for admitted students in February, and then the admitted student day at Dayton in March. We knew how few Dayton gives, so we did everything we could on our end (so much is out of your control). It was Twin B’s top choice, so I am really glad it worked out.
On the other hand, Skidmore was Twin A’s top choice, and we did the same: toured last summer, did the interview in the fall, and kept in contact and he was waitlisted for admission (and I guess this was basically a soft “no” because they haven’t pulled from it in the past few years). I thought the demonstrated interest would help his chances, but it did not.
My kid is waitlisted for TE at her top choice but has TE scholarships from 4 other schools! I’m sure there are kids on waitlists from the schools where she has an offer who may have a spot at the school she wants. Two of the schools have 5/1 enrollment deadlines although I guess we can ask for an extension.
Schools where she has TE:
Santa Clara
Willamette
St. Mary’s CA
Mt. Saint Mary’s in Los Angeles
School she’s on the WL:
University of Portland–anyone have experience with their TE waitlist?
Attached is my kids results and the dates we were notified. They ended up choosing a not TE school for Direct admit PA
Also edited to add, my kid mostly went after schools with high acceptance rates for TE. They withdrew their application to them all along the way.
We are a bit of the same pickle. Top choice on a waitlist. Second choice we do have TE but if we end up getting first choice then TE friend (hopefully) could get our waitlist spot.
I don’t know about U of P but hopefully things get moving soon with the 5/1 date upon us. One of my D’s best friends is going to U of P on TE so maybe they will meet someday
Quick question for everyone who has been through the process this year. Did you have a cap on how many schools you were able to apply to? Our TE liaison says that there a cap of 10 schools, but specifies that it’s a TE-imposed cap, rather than a cap imposed by our own institution. That seems at odds with what I see here on the forums, as it seems like a number of you applied to more than 10 schools…so trying to clarify this. I tried emailing TE but they have no clear way of getting in contact with them, and their auto-response refers me back to our institutional liaison.
No Cap for us. I think it is your institution’s rules and maybe they are trying not to be the bad guy?
That being said we didn’t end up going over 10. Originally we were though (decided not to apply) and our TE didn’t say anything about it.
No, I think that our TE liaison just saw the form on the TE website that caps the online application at 10, and maybe didn’t read the small print that says " If you require submission through more than 10 schools, contact your liaison officer." Something similar happened with information that was circulated to us about CIC-TEP. But I want to confirm that others have been able to apply to more than 10, so thank you!
