Tuition Exchange for Fall 2025 Applicants

Didn’t quite see one so figured I would start one. (Or I am blind and missed it).

The 2023 and 2024 Tuition Exchange threads have spreadsheets with acceptance info which is VERY helpful!!

I know D25’s chances of Tuition Exchange are slim to none. She is a 3.0 student. She is looking into majoring in criminal justice (bonus if there is a child or family focus), wants to consider a dance minor (doesn’t think she wants a team but open), but also has some interest perhaps in becoming a guidance counselor or wouldn’t mind restaurant management (she loves to cook but not sure becoming a chef is what she wants either). Essentially she is a typical 16 year old girl with tons of interests. She wants a smaller school with solid diversity (she is Latina) and she is open to some religious or service requirements. My home institution is a Jesuit college. She will apply test optional and she scores horribly on tests. She just took the ACT and said she couldn’t finish 2 parts so filled in random boxes in the last 2 minutes. (We would be thrilled with a 20 or 21.)

On her list so far…
LeMoyne
Rider
Oklahoma City U
Shenandoah
Lindenwood
Jacksonville U
Barry
Mercyhurst
Maryville x2 (TN and MO)
(Maybe High Point)

She has 2 older brothers. One is working and may go back to tech college for an associates degree eventually. S23 is a freshman at Syracuse on TE (with stacked talent merit for music major). She feels Syracuse is too big. She has toured LeMoyne and Jacksonville U and really liked them both. She prefers a smaller more defined campus where she feels safe.

Goal is to be under 25k for total COA. Non TE schools potentially on her list (WI based, MSEP may be an option)…

U of Southern Mississippi
U of Missouri-Kansas City
U of Louisiana-Lafayette (I visited with S23)
Minnesota State Mankato
U of Nebraska-Omaha
Ball State

Have you filtered the TE list by % of awards? You can look up schools by “60-90%” or “all or almost all applicants” get TE. I think there are schools within those categories that would fit your criteria – maybe St Elizabeth College in NJ or Mоnmouth College in IL.

Thanks for starting this. I got a lot of experience w/TE through D24’s efforts, but D25 is different in every way. Our list is currently at 40. Hope to get it to ten.

There is also this group on Facebook

My S25 has visited High Point twice and was told last week that they give 1 TE to a boy and 1TE to a girl. It’s still high on his list, but looking less likely for TE.

For a faith-based school, check out Anderson University in the SC upcountry. Greenville-Spartanburg airport is nearby.

I went through this with S20 and it is a marathon, not a sprint!

Hello. I’ve been lurking on the prior years’ boards for my S25. He is set in studying filmmaking, which adds another layer, especially since our home institution doesn’t offer it. He will need to be accepted to the university, then the film school, and ALSO get TE or some substantial merit, as we can’t otherwise afford it. The film schools generally require a unique film submission, so there is definitely a finite number of schools he can apply to. Right now, his list is:

Chapman
Loyola Marymount
USC
DePaul
Syracuse
Fordham
Emerson

With possible applications to Hofstra, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, Columbia College of Chicago, Loyola Chicago, UBoston and ?? He can apply at 10 schools via my work.

He is like a 3.8 unweighted with some APs and will take the SAT June 1, so that will be somewhat telling. We are in Rhode Island, but he’d like to move to California for college, if given the chance. He took a summer class as Syracuse and loved it.

I’m going to make some additional suggestions for your family to consider. In looking at them you might wonder, “Didn’t I mention his desire to move to California?” Yes, you did. But finding a film program at an affordable price took precedence for me.

If you’re looking to finish filling out your TE requests, these are some additional schools you may want to consider.

Less than 10% of TE applicants receive

  • Drexel (PA ): Set rate
  • Marquette (WI): Full tuition
  • Temple (PA ): Full tuition

11-40% of TE applicants receive

  • Point Park (PA ): Set rate
  • Rochester Institute of Technology (NY): Set rate
  • Webster (MO): Full tuition

I don’t know what the budget is, but these are some schools that may end up being on the more affordable side:

  • U. of Central Florida: About $35k for out-of-state students and if he gets a waiver for OOS costs, then it could be less than $19k.

  • U. of North Carolina - Wilmington: About $35k/year for out-of-state students

  • Ithaca (NY): Tends to be very generous with merit aid

  • Middle Tennessee State: About $41k/year, but your son would likely receive good merit

  • SUNY Oswego: This would cost no more in tuition than U. of Rhode Island, as it has a flagship match rate with most northeastern states.

  • Montclair State: About $41k/year. Unsure how much merit aid there is available.

And definitely do not overlook U. of Rhode Island, as it has a popular program for your son’s interests.

@2plustrio, has your family looked into these TE schools for your D?

  • St. Mary’s? It’s in San Antonio and it has a sizable population of minority students (60% Hispanic). It has about 2k undergrads and from Google Maps it looks to be a fairly self-contained campus. (It is also bordered by Fordham Ave, and 1 block beyond that is Marquette Dr. ). It also looks like there are options to study either criminal justice or criminology, and has other options which seem as though they could suit your D. Under clubs it mentions a Code Blue Dance Team as well as a K-Pop dance club. And it does full tuition TE awards…to 91-100% of its students, leaving about $12k/year for room & board.

  • Fairleigh Dickinson - Florham Campus (NJ): About 2100 undergrads at this campus (94% full-time, 52% white, 25% Hispanic). It offers a lot of the fields your D is interested in, including a minor in dance. 61-90% of TE applicants receive the award, which is full tuition, leaving room and board costs of a bit over $16k.

  • Lycoming (PA ): Aboug 1100 undergrads and offers a lot of the fields your D is interested in. Their Pom & Dance club sport offers a pom squad, a dance squad, and a step squad (source). It’s 61% white with 14% Hispanic. 61-90% of TE appicants receive the award, which is full tuition, leaving R&B costs of $15k/year.

  • Marymount (VA): About 2300 undergrads attend this school outside of D.C. There is a dance team listed on the club sports page and it offers a variety of majors that may interest your D. 28% of students are white, with 34% Hispanic. 61-90% of TE applicants receive TE which is a full tuition award, leaving R&B costs of a little over $16k/year.

U Rhode Island also belongs to National Student Exchange. NSE allows up to 2 semesters of exchange at any of the other ~200 schools across the US and Canada paying no more than what the student is paying already. Some cools schools participate (including some in California.)

I believe St. Marys was on the list but she took off for some reason (I would have to think back).

We tentatively added Stockton, Wayne State, Nebraska Wesleyan, and Bellarmine.

I know Quinnipiac has “study away” in Los Angeles and ties to NYC while being more affordable than going to school in either!

Good luck!

Okay… things are moving. S25 is allowed to request TE at ten schools and has selected 9. He just met with an admissions person today at school and is starting to narrow down his list. He is making progress!! He has met with three schools since senior year started, but one easily fell in last place (for him). Good luck to everyone who has kids working on applications. It is a busy time for them!

in your portal, can you select 10 or 20? We’ve been discussing on this thread which it is, 10 or 20, as I was told (by TE staff) that it’s 10 back in may, as was our TEL at my institution, but the portal allows to select up to 20.

D25 export was approved from our home school as of today. She has 12 current TE schools on her EZ app.

Very interesting. It says up to 20. My HR person said 10. So far he just has 9 for sure, but it seems like he may be able to add a few more. Thanks for the tip!

My HR person just confirmed that they changed the cap to 20, and the HR person was told that in a training they had this week.

I have a potentially dumb question.

I asked DS to check the status of his TE application - and he said it just says “exported”. Does that mean that he was approved by our home school for export and we have to wait to hear from the importing school?

Also - if he already has an offer of admission from an import school (PITT) - do we now have to wait and see if they accept him for TE?

Appreciate any insight or advice you can offer to this TE newbie.
Thanks!

That’s exactly right – yes to both of your questions.

Thanks ! When do we usually hear about the import status of the schools he applied to?
(Or as in the case of Pitt - to where he was offered admission?)

I DID NOT mean to flag this. It says I did. Carry on!
