Congrats!!! My daughter is on the waitlist for Loyola TE so
Good luck with St. Joe’s TE! Is this for food marketing, per chance?
Still no DePaul financial aid statement (I want to see if we get any unsubsidized loans). Waiting a-makin’ me crazy!
Me as well
We declined TE at St Joe’s and Loyola Chicago yesterday - I hope this will move the waitlist and someone’s student from this forum will receive the award.
So I learned something recently that didn’t affect us but could have been a HUGE problem. It turns out, at my university, if I use Tuition Exchange and my kid doesnt like the school / would like to transfer back to my home institution, she would NOT be able to. It’s sorta a one and done. We ended up just accepting our home institution.
Wow, I’ve never heard of that one. At my institution, the two have nothing to do with one another as employee benefits. A kid could use remission for 2 years and then apply for TE, and a kid could use TE for two years and then do remission instead. Utterly unrelated.
Same!
My daughter accepted at Pitt today with TE scholarship! She is so excited. It was a tough choice, but Pitt is such a fabulous fit. She turned down the TE scholarship at Boston University today, so hopefully someone else gets good news today!
Congrats and welcome to Pitt! S23 is at Pitt with TE - he has a wonderful experience there.
Congrats! I work at Pitt - she’s going to love it! #H2P
Does anyone know for sure how many offers SJU (St. Joes) is making? I was told only 2 this year but I don’t know if that is true. If so would this include the FACHEX offers? Are they the same as TE?
I have no clue! I know it’s a tough and competitive one to get for TE, but 2 seems super low! St Joes was one of my son’s top choices, but they never notified us on TE. He recently withdrew his application (he committed to DePaul with TE), so I guess we’ll never know if he were to be awarded! Have you heard an update from them on your child’s TE status?
On his TE portal it just says ‘import decision pending’. I teach at The University of Scranton and they made it seem so easy to go to other Jesuit schools but clearly it is not. Congrats on DePaul! I wish we had other options. St Joes is so close to my where almost all of our family is and so many of his pals are going there. He doesn’t want to consider anywhere else.
We too have reached the end of our FACHEX/TEP journey. I’ve included our summary below as well as some feedback for anyone looking for crib-notes next year. Thanks to the folks on this thread for sharing your experiences this year and prior.
Son was looking for large, urban school. Good GPA from a selective enroll public high school. Only considered schools with TEP or FACHEX potential.
Admitted to everywhere he applied Early Action. Not admitted to Boston College and Boston University w/out EA.
Did not receive TEP: U Pitt, American, Boston U
Received FACHEX: Loyola Maryland, St. Louis U, U San Francisco
Waitlist FACHEX: Seattle U, Fordham
Was about to deposit at Fordham and USF and found out Apr. 28 didn’t get FACHEX at F’ham so chose USF for location, diversity, and his program (history).
Lessons - Academics, demonstrated interest, demonstrated need all play a roll in TEP & FACHEX.
TEP and FACHEX were helpful to narrow the search. (Maybe too narrow?) Perhaps apply to other schools EA and see what Fin. Aid you might get? Also worth it if you don’t get any TEP or FACHEX offers.
There are a lot of great small schools in TEP. Wish my kid was willing to go small or rural but he was not.
Time between EA decision and TEP/FACHEX decision varies so must be patient. But, talk out different scenarios with having multiple offers, or waitlists, or still having $ gaps due to set rates. That will help when decisions need to be made.
Block off time (and $) in Feb-Apr for last-minute campus visits and those accepted student weekends. They are fun!
Look at those TE % rates on the google sheet, not just the bigger name schools. Some really interesting schools out there that are worth a visit.
My daughter just got TE for Catholic University on 4/29 lol. But I cannot edit the spreadsheet, if you wanted to add it in…thanks!
Found out today son was denied FACHEX TU for St Joes. The liaison was extremely nice and helpful, but she said only 2 offers went out and 2 were accepted. I’m sorry if anyone else was hoping for this like we were. Can anyone suggest any schools in that area that we may have better luck with?
So sorry to hear this, and so late. Thanks for the update.
Are you looking for other Philadelphia area schools or other schools that offer FACHEX or TE that might still have the large scholarships to offer?
Has your son been admitted to any other Philadelphia schools? I don’t know if the following schools are still accepting applications, but you could try La Salle, Holy Family, Chestnut Hill, Thomas Jefferson (East Falls) in the city; Immaculata, Gwynedd Mercy, Arcadia, Neumann, Widener, Eastern within ~30 minutes.
