I feel for your son. He did everything right, and this is all so unpredictable. If he’s at all interested in Case Western, I encourage you to reach out to their financial aid office. My son (high school class of 2021) went there on TE at a time when the school was less expensive. TE was their most generous scholarship at the time, but I think that has changed. I’ve seen some people say they got $48K in merit. Not a huge difference, but it might be worth asking if they can find any additional funding for your high-stats kid.
My son got TE for Union College ($44k)! It still makes the COA too high compared to the other schools and he wasn’t super into Union so its probably not in the running. I thought it was an excellent school though!
Congrats! My cousin went there in the 80s and retired recently as a Navy Admiral. Excellent school!
My son got TE from Union and Skidmore today. Most likely not going there neither.
D26 accepted at Fordham yesterday but no mention of merit. Other acceptances like OXY indicated merit in the letter. @Excel_Dad did you get the merit notification in the initial letter? Campus is Lincoln Center. Stats are 4.2 W GPA and 1420 SAT. Art portfolio student. 9 APs and rest honors/dual enrollment. Attending Northeast Catholic school. I reached out to the TE liaison to confirm the process. So far, TE institution updates:
Pratt: Accepted. Received 33k in merit and grant. Waiting for TE decision in early April
Occidental: Accepted. Received 48k in merit and grant. Denied TE.
Temple: Accepted. Received 20k in merit. Waiting for TE decision.
Fordham: Accepted. No merit in acceptance letter. Waiting for FA letter and TE decision.
Drexel: Accepted. 43k in merit and grant. TE waitlist.
PITT. Accepted. Missed the Dec 1 deadline for TE and merit.
Pepperdine: Accepted. Waiting for all.
American: Accepted. TE set rate.
LMU: Accepted. 45 in merit and grant. Waiting on TE.
Howard: Pending admissions decision. TE denied according to portal.
Other pending admissions decisions related to TE: Emerson, USC, GWU, and BU.
Hi jlg,
The Fordham in-house scholarship merit amount (not TE) was listed in the original financial aid award letter (which did come separately from the acceptance to the university) in January. Fordham released their TE decisions that year the first week of April. They were one of the last schools on our list to notify.
Good luck - I hope everything turns out well!
Ah, okay. The financial aid letters are rolling out starting March 20. We’ll see! Thank you!
The rest of the decisions are clearly the reaches, but something will work out in big picture. Fingers crossed.
We also heard differently at different schools –
Drexel- admission with merit 12/18, TE waitlist on 12/22, 3/9 got off waitlist (EA)
Case Western - TE with admission 12/18 (EA)
Rose Hulman - awarded admission 2/11 and TE 2/13 (RD)
RIT - awarded admission on 2/27, then TE on 3/11 (RD)
Pitt - admitted 10/31, TE denied on 1/26 (rolling, submitted 10/11)
UDel- admit 12/18, TE denied on 3/13 (EA)
Temple - admit 11/4, no notification TE as of 3/15 (EA)
Just FYI, we did appeal to Case with Rose Hulman offer and they did not budge. But not to discourage anyone else from trying – all they can do is say no!
Thanks for this info! There is a lot more discussion of appeals these days, so it is interesting to see how it plays out.
It is crazy how each school has their own way of selecting recipients, which makes an already opaque process even more opaque.
TE-adjacent post. We received an email from USC to wait to for a third party to email about direct access to IRS transcripts. Since D26 has already received FA awards from 8 institutions based on FAFSA and CSS data, there do not appear to be any inconsistencies. Looking forward to April!![]()
That is nuts. I know when we did the CSS profile for Drexel, we had to grant permission to the IRS, but not all schools had that. Maybe that is why?
On a separate note, my son received a call from his admissions counselor at Stevens this afternoon to say that they are awarding him TE! This is great news for us. It makes it doable and we all love the school. The only downside is that it’s across the river from us, so essentially home. He would live on campus, and Stevens was already in his top 3, so this may tip the scales. We will see! Just wanted to spread some hope on this board. You all have been a wonderful source of support.
Congrats!!!
Thank you!
Congrats! Did he apply EA? My son applied RD and no word at all yet!
Congratulations! Stevens is a really nice college!
Giving us all hope! Congrats!
Does anyone know the Set Rate for TE at Providence College? My son didnt get TE but I am curious to see how close his other aid comes to the TE rate. Thanks!
Set rate is $44,000 for all schools for 2026-27.
