Yeah I feel like for an ASD kid, the fit and social culture matters even more than neurotypical. Like my other kid (very neurotypical) could probably be fine most places and make friends, but much harder for my ASD kid.
Thank you! That’s helpful!!
I only have one, but see this difference in my nieces and nephews (and even me). It’s a hard transition for all, but just a whole other level with an ASD kid.
yesterday, our Christmas present from him was finally delivered. It’s a book of his writing for the past three years and it’s like a window into his soul. I read every page last night and sobbed. Sometimes from sadness and others from joy, but it really confirmed that if a more expensive school is where he feels most at home, we need to do everything we can to make it work, for all of our sakes. So glad you can relate![]()
Another update for my student seeking a Voice Performance degree, with a minor or double major. He was accepted to the double degree program at Bard College and Conservatory with TE plus a $28,000 Conservatory Scholarship, covering tuition at this VERY EXPENSIVE liberal arts college. Again, the liberal arts college comes through. We’re feeling especially grateful for this one, as last year it looks like they gave it to 16 out of 111 applicants.
With this decision, he was successful with obtaining TE at 3 out of 6 places he applied for it. Muhlenberg, Lawrence, and Bard. Denied TE at Ithaca and the Hartt School at University of Hartford. Hasn’t heard from Temple, but assuming that’s a no and he decided he doesn’t want to go there anyway.
Good luck to everyone still waiting and making decisions! Applying as a music student was different, and I have no idea how much his audition affected his TE chances, but I’m feeling so grateful for these small, liberal arts colleges with strong music programs coming through with the TE for my kid.
Congrats!! 3 out of 6 ain’t bad!!!
Wow!!! That is amazing. Bard is a fantastic school and the campus is so beautiful. Plus, easy access to NYC, which for a voice major, is wonderful. Huge congrats!
Congrats! Mine is going through the audition process as well (Acting), and we were told by one on your declined list that they did make the decisions based on students accepted at the time of their decision, and that because his acceptance was later because of the audition requirement, he was not considered. It’s a bummer, but they get to make their own rules for when and how they award TE.
They definitely do get to make their own rules. Thanks for sharing that info. I hope your kid has gotten some good offers, through TE or otherwise. The audition piece definitely added an additional layer of complication with this process!
Thanks! He is so excited about Bard. He absolutely loved it when we visited for his audition. I think it will be the one he chooses.
And she is in for USC Architecture!!! Waiting on financial aid/TE.![]()
Huge congrats!!!
Anxiously awaiting on Syracuse TE. Anyone hear anything yet?
My son was accepted there with a merit scholarship (less than TE). Do they award the TE separately?
I don’t know about Syracuse, but many colleges send their in-house merit award notifications separately from a TE award notification.
Congrats. How does TE work with a 5-year bachelor’s degree? At least, I think architecture is 5 years at USC. My DD is also considering USC.
My guess is that the 5th year will turn into regular aid/scholarship. Congrats to you as well!
DD received Presidential Scholarship for half tuition for five years tonight. They allow an extra year for BArch. Will see what happens with TE and FA. She LOVES USC, so we are trying to process it all. What a wild ride!
Wow! Congrats!!! It has been a wild ride for sure!!
LMK if you have any questions about Syracuse. Been living here for 20 years and I have also worked at SU in some capacity (right now just a 1 hour a week side-gig) since that time.
Congratulations. That is amazing. Fingers crossed TE comes through, too.
