@2021Hopeful never read my daughters’’ maybe she will let me now lol
My son applied November 8th and stuff from school arrived the 9th. He is still waiting for Gibson portal information. Does that mean anything? He has not heard any decision. ACT score 36 Unweighted gpa 96.8 105.68 weighted. He is in the top 1% of class. I know it is random, but surprised he hasn’t heard. Anyone from Maine heard back?
Any ideas of when we think the next batch of decisions will come out?
@fun1234 I’m from Maine. Still awaiting my response, and my stats are very similar to your son’s. I applied 10/21.
@2021Hopeful I still have yet to hear but in my Why Tulane essay I talked about how Katrina affected me because my grandparents were from New Orleans and how that is what made me fall in love with helping people because we went to help clean up after the storm. That then connected back to Tulane because I love that they have a community service requirement. I also talked about wanting to join the cheer team and be involved in the Tulane and New Orleans community.
Did anyone who received email re:acceptance not receive formal letter yet? Hoping it’s just holiday mail as the portal hasn’t been updated for my S and since we didn’t see merit$ hoping to get letter so we know email was 100 percent true
@AlexDad2016 did that… it says no award? My s got the congratulations you’re in email but would feel better to get portal updated or hard copy in hand
My son applied with Tulane’s own application, but changed his mind and went with the common app instead. He did get a user name and password with that Tulane application, but that application was not sent in.
When he applied with the common app instead he got an email that says they have received all his information and the Gibson portal password would come soon. He never got that email because they did not send it.
He did both applications with different emails
fun at least try the forgot password link
Yes he can look up his financial aid and it says they haven’t reviewed his application, but it is the Gibson portal password from the application he did not submit. So I am not sure they would connect them together. Why would they say his Gibson portal log in is coming soon if it was the one he got before he even started the common app. He will check tomorrow.
Daughter received her actual letter…looks like no honors program
Huge congrats to everyone who was accepted this week!! Do you guys think the next batch of decisions will still be released on Monday, or are they now releasing on Thursdays?
Congratulations to all those who have been accepted. As fallenchemist (RIP) would remind us, the CC population is not a true representation of all of the applicants. On CC it seems that all students accepted receive merit $$$$ and most are invited into the honors program. That is because the CC population is skewed to the higher end of the applicants. Most Tulane student do not receive merit $$ and few are in the honors program. Congrats to all!
Does anyone know if there is a way to petition to get into the honors college if you were not initially invited? Could you apply once you get to Tulane? Also, what are the main benefits of the honors college?
@LHS2017 I was not admitted to the honors program and cannot speak about the specific benefits (besides smaller, more intimate classes), but I do know you can apply for it directly after the first semester (which I personally plan to do, and I plan to apply for the honors dorm). I went to the big campus preview day in October and asked one of the admissions’ counselors about getting into the honors program, and I was told that it’s more a numbers game than a holistic acceptance. Thus, even if you saved lives in Africa but don’t have a 33+ ACT/1500+ SAT/3.9+ UW GPA, your chances for getting in the honors program are slim to none. Sadly, the admissions guy told me my 1440 SAT and 3.96 UW GPA was “competitive.” but I did not get in.
Keep in mind that there are other honors programs/societies at Tulane besides the regular honors program. While on a tour in August, I was told by my tour guide that the regular honors program doesn’t matter as much as we want to think it does, but that was just her opinion.
If I applied late October and have yet to receive an acceptance should I assume that I am denied? My friend who applied from my same high school applied three weeks after me and already got accepted. I feel like if I was going to be accepted I would have already been. I believe that I am a pretty competitive applicant with stats about their average, my essays were good, my extracurriculars are good, etc. The only problem with my applicant was that I had a minor type in my “Why Tulane” essay that I only caught after I submitted. The typo was that I wrote “will” instead of “with”…no idea how I didn’t notice it when reviewing my application. Would this be reason enough to deny me? My friend (who I mentioned earlier) and I basically had the same exact application (same stats, similar essay, same extracurriculars), so if she was accepted, I don’t see why I wouldn’t…unless if it was because of the typo!!! HELP!!!
