@AlexDad2016 don’t beat yourself up. If I get into the honors program, I don’t even know if I’ll do it. It isn’t the thing for some people. Looks like a crapload of work, and less fun. (Staying in honors dorms with families, having to do seminars where you participate)
I don’t know your daughter, but for me the honors program sounds like something I would pass on.
I have a friend who is currently in Honors at Tulane and she said she loves it. Not swaying anyone either way, she said it’s about the same difficulty as AP courses at her high school, but she loves the Honors dorm since it’s a bit quieter for her to focus on her work. She has friends who aren’t in Honors who love the idea of not being in it, friends who are in Honors and wish they weren’t in it, and then friends like herself. It depends on the person. She said the main benefit of Honors is definitely the dorm since everyone there is a lot like herself and would recommend it to people who want to study or find the courses to be rigorous, like herself. She’s not as much on the party scene, so living in the Honors dorm was a good option for her. The best thing about the Honors college is you can apply for admission after your first semester, so if your daughter really wants to be in it, @AlexDad2016, she can apply then after she has a feel for campus.
As for @KatieK123, Tulane reviews applications entirely at random. So, some people from your school might hear earlier than others. They have 3+ weeks until decisions need to be made and lots of applications to sort through. Remember, the people on CC are a small, small, small group of applicants, and many people who have already applied have yet to hear back, so you aren’t alone. Not hearing back yet isn’t a bad omen, it just means they most likely haven’t gotten to your application yet. One typo isn’t an automatic rejection
So I just received an email from Tulane Undergraduate Admissions saying congratulations on my admission to Tulane. The subject for the email was “Our Superstar Professors” as the email talked a lot about the professors after saying congratulations. I am a little bit confused because two of my friends who already got accepted into Tulane got a different email saying that their application portal had been updated, an email that I never got. In their application portals is where it said that they had been admitted. The congratulations email that I got told me to go to my application portal to deposit money for enrollment, yet when I entered my own portal, it didn’t say anything about being admitted, just that Tulane had received all of my application materials. I was a bit skeptical of the email at first because it was different from my friends’ but the next day I got a letter in the mail saying I had been admitted to Tulane as a Premier Scholar. I am guessing that means I am definitely accepted but I am still confused as to why my admission portal doesn’t say anything and why it hasn’t been updated/why I haven’t gotten an email about the update. Should I be worried? Is this simply just that Tulane gives admission decisions differently to different people? Should I contact the admissions counselor for my state? Or should I assume that I am definitely accepted into Tulane and everything is fine?
Something else to note is that they sent my letter in the mail just four days after I submitted my whole application (besides my test scores which were sent weeks in advance). Is that unusual because aren’t most decisions mailed/given weeks later?
@djamison255 Others on CC received this email and said that they logged onto the Gibson portal and were able to see their information. If you google “Gibson Portal Tulane” it’s the first thing that shows up, then click “sign in” and “forgot username/password”. Enter the email you applied with and your info will be sent to you so you can log in.
@allison1225 When I did that, it said my email account wasn’t found in their records, although I did use that email to apply and Tulane has been contacting that email. Right after I applied to Tulane (12 days ago), I got an email saying that along with my application status portal, I would be getting an additional email telling me my Gibson Online Portal login information but I haven’t got that additional email, so I’m not really sure what to do now…
Is it at least safe to say that I got in, despite the confusion?
@djamison255 My son also cannot use the email he applied with to find out his Gibson Online portal login information. He puts in the email and it says it cannot be found. My son is calling tomorrow. If you are able to find out what it means before he is able could you post it here. He still has not gotten a notification that he has been accepted. It is nice to here though even without it you were able to get told of admission. He is being patient. I on the other hand have a hard time waiting. It is a good thing I am not the one going to college.
@AlexDad2016 He did try that way it says it does not exist. This is the place they mailed the receipt of his materials and everything. Though he did also get one emails also from his original application that he never finished. The one from Tulane. It is probably automatic since he never finished it.
@fun1234@djamieson my son received the email Thanksgiving eve, when we followed this threads advice of forget password to get on Gibson his Gibson does not show any financial information… yet to receive letter in mail… hoping that mail is delayed, portal will be updated after holiday weekend and that he didn’t receive congratulation letter in error ( that would be a nightmare)… yes I am having the harder time than he is
@lourveamerican If you don’t mind posting when you hear something. I do know it is random, but I also know you said your stats are similar to my sons. So I am just curious what response you get. What major are you applying? My son is engineering.
@KatieK123 I would send an email immediately to your admissions counselor, saying that you submitted the wrong version of your “Why Tulane” essay and attach the corrected one. We all make mistakes but since you are aware of it, correct it! Good luck!
@KatieK123 I would correct the essay and use this as a great opportunity to reach back out to your AO, telling her how much you love Tulane- so much so that you were even re-reading the essays. I think typos matter, but to show that you care so much to correct it might bring your packet up to the top- they probably haven’t even read it yet!
@KatieK123 I would say just relax. Do something productive to keep your mind off of college decisions. I got in and I didn’t even do the supplement (1410 SAT, 3.9/4.5 GPA, 25k merit aid).
Have any of you guys or anyone you know gotten in to Tulane without completing a supplement? Why do you suppose Tulane would admit someone who didn’t take the time to do a supplement? I’m thinking it was my hooks that won them over (Black, first-gen).
@fun1234 Personally, I would advise your son not to call about the Gibson portal if he has not received the email congratulating him on his admission. My understanding is that the Gibson portal is only available to accepted students to see financial aid info. Many of us on this thread received an acceptance email Thursday night and were then able to log in to Gibson to verify, even though the status portal had not been updated.
In short - if he received the email, call the school. If he did not receive the email, try to have patience.
@fun1234 I agree with G8tr2mom- your son will not be able to log into Gibson until he is accepted, once he is accepted he will be able to access Gibson. It is for accepted students only.
To everyone else, Gibson at this point is only going to show merit aid awarded. If there is nothing on there then chances are they did not receive any of the merit scholarships. Your letter will state this as well.
@dolphnlvr6 - Are you sure Gibson is only for accepted students? I made a Gibson account on Thursday after all of these people were getting acceptances and seeing merit aid on Gibson. I had no problem making an account and accessing it, but I did not get an acceptance email, there is no merit showed on Gibson, and I have not gotten any other letter saying I’ve been admitted.
@Gtr2mom It is not just for accepted students it is used to show if you have gotten your financial aid sheets turned it as well. My son immediately got a Gibson portal log in when he was filling out Tulane’s own application, but he decided to do the common app application instead of Tulane’s application. When he filled out the common app they did say he would get a log in soon. It has been two weeks. He got a Gibson portal that same day even before he sent in any applications. Though it was specific to the Tulane application not the common app. I know he is going to be sending in the scholarship soon too. It can’t hurt to ask and saying he is checking on his financial aid paperwork.
I was able also to access my Gibson portal by going to the site and clicking “forgot pass/username”. When I input my email, it then sent me my login ID and pass (just numbers). So I was able to login to Gibson, even though I haven’t gotten any acceptance.
So just to clarify: where/how do we get our acceptance?
I’m the exact opposite of most of the people on this thread. Got my acceptance letter and email but the Gibson Portal says they don’t have my email in their records, not sure how to see my updated status/merit aid
