Agree. The stats are fine for Tulane - in fact would say on the high end. The demonstrated interest is the issue and unless they have a plan to show that to the school over the next couple of months, admittance through RD is slight indeed.
IMO if a schools is âtop 3â I would never suggest an ED application. Only if the school is #1 (and affordable). If youâd be equally happy at a few other schools and CW is one of them - with that admit in hand seems like you have a great option already!!
CW is not my top 3, but I wonât have other results before having to commit ED2
Itâs a tough call - only one that you and your family can make - if youâd be just as happy at a couple of your other options, youâll have to consider how likely is a positive result at one of those. Unfortunately this is one of those things that thereâs no going back and do-overâs. S23 was in a similar position to you and we let it ride to RD - ultimately resulted in an acceptance but it wouldnât have been a surprise had it been a rejection. He had other schools he would have been just as happy with as well.
Thanks for the reassurance that at least a few applicants get admitted in RD! Did your son do anything to help his chances after getting deferred? There is a very short form to fill out showing continued interest (check box plus âanything else we should know?â field), but we arenât sure what to put in that field and anything else that would make sense.
Fill out the online form, for sure. If you get emails from the school, be sure to open them up and click through some of the links (yes, for schools that look for demonstrated interest, this is tracked!). If thereâs specific questions that wouldnât be easily found with a web search, reach out to the AO - but donât waste their time with silly questions that could be easily researched.
The RD round, by most rumor, gets centered on filling âareaâs of institutional needâ. In hindsight S23 checked a couple of boxes for them on this front and it made sense why he got accepted - but it would have been impossible to know what those areaâs were while deciding to switch to ED2 or stick with RD.
Same here. Is the honors scholar a program at Tulane?
Yes, you can read about the first year honors scholars program on their website. They also have an informational weekend (sun-mon) for admitted honors scholars called Top Scholars Weekend in early March that you can register for through the portal.
It looks pretty interesting, thanks!
My EA accepted kid got a super nice swag box in the mail today. Tulane does everything right.
Yep, my EA son as well. Lots of good stuff in it.
SooooâŠ. What swag did you get?
Nothing crazy- notebook, car magnet , mardi gras beads, stickers. Enough to make the kid feel good.
For anyone interested, TPM invites came out today. D was invited.
Tpm? What is that?
Tulane Pathway to Medicine. Itâs their BSMD program. Guaranteed admission to Tulane School of Medicine. Application is by invitation only.
Curious for future forum questions - when applying to Tulane did your daughter signal on the application she was interested in the program? Just curious how they pool the applicants of who to send an invite to or not.
My DS considered it, but neither mentioned it nor ended up applying.
She did signal interest in TPM, she emailed admission to ask about program, she indicated premed track on her application and she also has a lot of medical related ECs.
Their website says âStudents must have selected a major of interest in Science and Engineering or Public Health, and/or Pre-Medicine/Pre-Health track to be identified as a student suitable for the program by Admission.â
âCompetitive applicants will have very high academicsâtypically SAT 1540+ or ACT 35+. Test optional students may also be considered.â
Iâm skeptical that anyone test optional is actually invited. I looked at postings from past candidates and they all seem to have at least the test scores mentioned. Mine has 4.0 UW, ACT 35.
When my S looked at it, you had to double major in a science and something other than a science. So he started out as a double
Major in Chemistry and history, and later when he decided against the program, do major in Chemical engineering and psychology.
