Tulane Spring Scholars

@momof3co (I am only basing this on what I was told. I don’t know first hand. I have a student at Tulane who is a senior) Last year, some students were sent an email after they were deferred to switch from EA to ED2 improving their chances of admittance. The students that received this email were either students who were very close to meeting the requirements and those students who, on paper, appear to have grades/scores exceeding their requirements but showing NO DEMONSTRATED INTEREST (red flag for Tulane. They think the student is applying as a safety). I suppose Tulane felt that this offer would increase their yield but also allow students to show their commitment to the school and in turn, increase their chance of getting in only this time ED making it binding. I think Tulane is only “putting it out there” to let students that applied EA know that there will now be an ED2 and should they get deferred, they can switch to ED2. I would double check with admissions but it seems like more of a heads up and an opportunity to discuss with your child if this is something they would want to do should they not get in first round of EA. Tulane is very expensive and I also believe that switching to ED2 also eliminates any chance of merit based awards. I would certainly call admissions. I’ve spoken to the crew there a lot and they are all great to speak to. Good luck!
