Tulane University Class of 2024 EA

In the Fall we visited the campus & went to Tulane event about 40 miles from our home…

@sb12345 Is it took much to ask what reason he gave for not switching to ED? I have to wonder what Tulane thinks is a good answer to that question!

@sb12345 I was told that they defer if you dont visit, so I was wondering about that. I guess it might not be true!

While they do consider demonstrated interest, they also understand that many can’t, for a variety of reasons, visit campus. So that sounds like a rumor.

@carefreeht That is not true. There are plenty of people who didn’t visit who were admitted in EA, and likewise not everyone who visited was admitted. Demonstrated interest comes down to a lot of things (I would think mostly your “Why Tulane?” essay). Visiting is just one on the list, although I do think it’s a strong one.

@homerdog He just explained that he was unable to switch to ED 2 because he has to consider merit scholarship opportunities before making a commitment.

@sb12345 And then he got accepted with merit! Brilliant! I guess they really did want him.

I visited and got deferred from EA.

Almost everyone here seems to be giving Tulane a free pass here with admissions. No other school I applied to plays this game and I have never heard of any other school apart from Tufts and maybe a half dozen others do it. So by saying “many other schools do it” you are playing into their game. In reality, many prestigious schools I applied to don’t even have ED at all like USC, U of San Diego, or any California public school. Even UMiami, which is notorious for complaints about deferrals due to lack of interest, doesn’t purposely defer you so you think you have to apply EDII since UMiami’s EDII deadline is before EA decisions are released.

Accepted - Art History
3.4 UW, 3.74 W, top 5 high school in California
33 ACT, 3 AP’s (two 4’s and one 3)
Orchestra (4 years, no leadership)
Varsity sport (Freshman year only)
No hooks besides being Hispanic
I visited, no interview

Hey everyone
Just got accepted with a scholarship after being deferred

Congratulations- @anna114141 . Did you get the PT scholarship . Are you an international student as i believe they released international scholarships 2 days back.

I’m not sure why you think your kid should be getting tons of merit scholarship money with a 30ACT and 3.6 GPA? In addition, no one has to go to a private college for undergrad, there are many great public flagship universities that are 1/3 the cost.

For years, after Katrina, Tulane gave some very good merit to attract top stat kids and now that they have met their goal, they are using their resources to help more need-based applicants. I see nothing wrong with that.

@ind1974
Yes I am an international student but I got the Sub-Saharan African Leadership Award

Anyone get into TRIA? Notifications went out about an hour ago.

I got it w/ 2,000 a year. Is award evaluated on essay or by the project your given?

I’m not sure, but If you don’t mind sharing, what were your stats/ECs? @Stresseddd3

Nothing outstanding
3.9 gpa
33 act (36 math 35 science)
780 Chem
760 Math II
12 AP, 1 IB HL, 1 DE
My ec’s were pretty standard, only stem related thing was tutoring for chemistry and math.
I just wrote my essay about tutoring and curiosity with science
I also got deans if that made a difference?

Stressed, have you committed yet? DD applied for TRIA and didn’t get it. Her essay was really good — she let me read it and I write for a living. Her stats are great. HOWEVER, she hasn’t yet committed. The reason she hasn’t committed is money.

Yesterday morning, the husband and I both received an odd little email from Tulane asking our daughter’s intentions for next year. There was a place to check “yes” or “maybe.” When we indicated we were still waiting, we were redirected to a short survey where we checked boxes pertaining to the reasons why we were still waiting. To the extent I could, I answered. (And the answer is, she got good merit, but the price is still too high for our means to pay, and she unfortunately did not get one of the big scholarships.)

So today, she got the notice she didn’t get TRIA. I have to wonder if that little email was sent to everyone who applied for TRIA but hadn’t paid a deposit. To make sure they didn’t offer TRIA to anyone who wasn’t committed. (Or it could just relate to the upcoming release of acceptance letters for RD. Who knows? But one can’t help but wonder.)

The sad thing is, if she had gotten TRIA, that would have been one more weight on Tulane’s side of the scale. It would have been spending money for her, which would have let us throw a little more money at the tuition bill.

Meanwhile, we’re massively applying for every little scholarship we can find. I‘m bound and determined to send my daughter to Tulane. It’s where she wants to be.

If anyone doesn’t want their Paul Tulane, we’ll take it!

My DD got the DHS and has already committed, but she got an email informing her that she is on the waitlist for TRIA because of the strength of her application. Did your daughter get placed on the waitlist as well? @Mamatodogs
