Easy for me to say but ED should be a pretty straightforward exercise for them. Numbers illustrative:
They’re reserving 1,200 for total ED acceptances, 100 of those are reserved for student athletes and they split the remaining 1,100 800/300 between ED1/ED2. So they have 800 slots and receive ~1,200 ED1 applications. Maybe ~200 of those applications were significant reaches and will be put in the decline pile. So now they’re prioritizing 800 spots for 1,000 “qualified” applicants.
My numbers could be completely off but seems like a reasonable guess.
I agree with your assumptions but note that (1) they have said they want to reduce the number of ED students so the 800 number could easily become 600; and (2) you are basing the 1,200 applicants number on the past two years. Before then, the number applicants was double that; in theory, the number of applicants could go way up.
I wonder how the kids admitted for spring would factor into those numbers. Does anyone know how many spring scholars they tend to admit from the ED pile each year? These kids tend to have lower stats but make convincing cases that they are meant to go to Tulane.
I noticed at the top of the page that it states Tulane and BC announce decisions tomorrow. I just want to say thank you for the community managers and contributors, and wish everyone good luck!!
Hi!! I have about a 92.16 unw and a 94.3 weighted on a number scale. My school calculates gpa differently and I go to a rigorous public high school on Long Island so the weighted gpa would be different, however I know they recalculate. I did not submit my sat scores to Tulane. I applied ED and showed a lot of demonstrated interest. It has been my dream school for 5 years now. I have good, unique extra curriculars like being selected to play in Barcelona with professional soccer players on the female and male pro teams. Additionally I was a model in New York fashion week, I am im an award winning high school orchestra and I’m in 1st violin. I have been a varsity soccer player since my 8th grade year as well as a varsity flag football player. There is more but it’s a lot to write down right now haha. For the academic extracurriculars I have National Honor society and National Spanish Honor Society. As well as being a varsity scholar athlete all four years of highschool. Additionally I am a registered volunteer for island harvest which is a charity dedicated to food distribution for the homeless all over Long Island. I also have many other community service hours, and I have work experience as well. I am a Hispanic Jew who has a very diverse background, as well as a good college essay. I was able to wright a good “why Tulane “ essay because of how much I adore the school. GUYS I REALLLLYY WANT TO GET IN!!! I hope I do. Thoughts??
I know decisions come out tomorrow night but I wanted to hear outside opinions on how strong my application might look to be accepted ED. My college essay was about my rare condition called Hypogonadotropic Hypogonadism. It wasn’t a sob story essay but an empowering one, showing my strengths and maturity gained from such hurdles I have faced.
Will there be Deferrals in this years ED decisions??? I am not interested in the spring scholar option and I know last year there was deferrals. If not admitted I would rather be deferred then rejected or offered spring scholar
They’ve been saying that for a couple of years and although they haven’t released the CDS for last cycle yet I’m going to take the “I’ll believe it when I see it in the numbers” approach.
Of course I am. And of course anything could happen but from an analytical standpoint it’s more accurate to put the heavier weighting on the more recent data.
Last I heard Spring Scholars do not factor into any of the numbers they publish. Those students are seen as a backfill space that opens up due to students that finish their programs in the Fall or students that may drop out/transfer after the Fall.
I read in an article somewhere that lowering the 800 ED number to 800 was the target. Maybe how an applicant answers “Why Tulane” is less important now; the word count on the essay was drastically cut down.
Ok but does anyone know how many spring admits they take each year on average? Bc if those kids aren’t factored in to that 800ish number the kids accepted in every way to Tulane out of the early decision pile is actually higher than what it seems. I would imagine at least 30-50% of those spring admit kids matriculate.
