Tulane University Early Decision / Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

There is a story on their school newspaper that suggests for 2022 they accepted 40 Spring Scholars in the ED round. And “in total predicts to have 75 spring scholars in the class of 2027”. No idea if that’s consistent from one year to the next.

I think - complete guess - your 30-50% is on the high side. If a student gets the option of Spring Scholar they get released from the binding ED and now have the option to weigh other acceptances against the prospect of a first semester abroad or a gap semester. Then again, if they applied ED, Tulane as their A-#1 school they wanted so you might be correct.

I think last year the total number might be even higher. Like closer to 100+. Not sure if that’s how many there were in the most recent freshman class or how many from the class of 2028 that received spring admit offers.

My understanding is the kids they admit that way are on the lower end of stats but have shown such demonstrated interest, have such a compelling why Tulane essay etc that admissions offers them this opportunity.

Three years ago the word count for Why Tulane was 800! They chopped it down when they got the new director of admissions, who is also focusing on reducing ED and Spring Scholar admissions

I don’t think they factor Spring into ED, bc once you get Spring it’s no longer binding.

It used to be that way with the prior director of admissions. They knew people were viewing it as a back door and it seems like they are now trying to slowly phase it out

Unsure if that’s accurate. It sounds like they took more spring admits last year than in the year prior - who knows. Also, on an admissions zoom this year the guy said it’s absolutely not true that they’re taking fewer ED kids. Again, who knows what’s true and what isn’t.

Yes, that’s exactly what happened… so the metric must now rely LESS on the essay (and student’s knowledge of Tulane/how they’ll contribute, etc. and more on the stats.

Maybe they just got sick of reading yet another long essay. If you can’t tell them why you want to go to their school so badly in one page as opposed to 2-3, maybe you need to learn how to articulate a point better. Lol

Also Tulane class of 2028 has over 150 spring scholars. This was from the Tulane admissions blog.

A Class Like No Other

With over 1,850 eager students ready to call Tulane home, we’re also thrilled to be joined by 150+ Spring Scholars and 150+ transfer students. These new members of our community are bringing fresh perspectives and a wealth of experiences that will enrich our vibrant campus life.“

That number was once closer to 300

You can, but if you read it closely they changed the focus to make it more of a community/diversity essay than a straight up “Why Tulane.” They want to know what you will bring to the table, not just what you love about New Orleans/the school

Yes true the focus shifted a bit. But they still want to take students who really really want to be there. New Orleans is definitely not for everyone. Demonstrated interest is still super important for Tulane. Admissions is very open about that. Obviously they want kids who have reasons beyond I want to party and eat good food. I don’t think reducing word count amounts to the essay being less important though.

I agree with this. The admissions office is looking for the applicant to outline why Tulane is the school they want to attend and part of Tulane’s charter is around community service so it makes sense that they might restructure the question some.

From a demonstrated interest standpoint though this question is more important to the EA/RD applicants anyhow since ED is the ultimate form of demonstrated interest.

That number is going to vary one year to the next based on how many seats they project opening up for the Spring semester.

I’m part of the parents facebook group and there’s lots of kids that will finish their program in the Fall (either on a 4.5 year program or maybe transferred in with lots of AP credit and 3.5 years). There’s also going to be some number drop-out/transfers from the Fall.

They want to fill those spaces for the Spring semester. Any seat left open is tuition $$'s not collected.

This article from the Tulane Hullaballoo was published in Dec 2022. The article states that there 875 ED admissions in the class of 2026 and that they planned to reduce the number of ED admissions to 800 for the class of 2027.

I don’t know where these numbers come from but they do not match at all with the data published by Tulane in their Common Data Set. (I’m guessing the numbers in the article may be ED1 only).

According the the 2022-2023 CDS (class of 2026) there were a total of 1258 ED admits (68% acceptance rate) and in 2023-2024 CDS (class of 2027) there were 1193 ED admits (68% acceptance rate).

We attended an info session on campus in early 2023 just after the new Admissions Director came on board. The AO who presented did say then that they were planning to increase EA and reduce ED. Didn’t give numbers…just a general statement. But that did not actually happen as seen in the 2023-2024 CDS the acceptance rate remained the same for ED (they did not previously report EA separately so I don’t know if that changed).

Good luck all!

Do we think that ED acceptance rate will be as high as it it said to be in the past years. And if the amount of ED students accepted will be lower??? Also does it strengthen your application if you were the only ED applicant in your high school?

Sorry - I know you’re waiting on the edge of your seat for the next few hours but any answer you get here would completely be speculation.

Good luck to all. My first child was a spring scholar. He was a little disappointed and then he loved the experience.

Literally so nervous over here. Less about the result than about the anticipation.
