If you provide this information, @SamarK1, posters will be happy to offer suggestions of additional schools that might work for your daughter.

Does your school include rank with their transcripts? My kids graduated for a TX public school that was officially non-ranking and by law only had to provide rank for kids that were in the to 10% and then they had to ask for it to be included. I’d leave off rank on applications if you can.

I’d also look at UT Dallas I think they’d give more weight to SAT scores and course work than rank.

Thanks!!

Do you have budget constraints and/or desires.

Would you consider out of state schools?

For example, at Alabama, your student would be less than $20K a year all in - and they have an excellent program.

And there are other fine programs - not quite as cheap - but very good.

Also, how about Texas Tech?

We were not considering Texas Tech earlier. We are open to Schools outside of texas (trying to avoid 80K per year)

What is your ā€œdesiredā€ budget. Near everything is less than $80K. You can be as low as $20K but you can also be $60K or $80K.

What are the desires - size (A&M and UT are huge - but is that what you want)?

Urban like UT or more suburban like A&M - or a school in the middle of nowhere?

Weather - like I don’t want to be in the cold?

Is there an ethnicity balance you seek, etc?

You have to be more definitive - on most everything - or we can give you a list of 200 schools.

I know you wanted UT and A&M - but forgetting your perception of them or the price, did you really like those schools?

I want to find the right school - not just the big name. You have to be there four years, day after day.

If the big flagship is right - great. But if it’s not - and you’d want smaller, those are out there too - that’s why i’m asking for you to be definitive.

Maybe you don’t want to be in the city - but only said that because of UT’s rep. Maybe you do.

I just want to find the true desires…

thanks

I would think that if you are considering Texas colleges, you might also want to consider Arizona State, University of Arizona, and University of New Mexico.

Which Texas public universities with ME would you consider?

UTD, UT Austin , Rice and TAMU

UTA, TAMU and Rice unfortunately are not likely given your kid’s class rank. I would adjust your sights down. The good news is that ā€œprestigeā€ probably means the least for engineering degrees as far as employment is concerned.

Don’t forget to get back to us on the questions above.

Why is UTD better for you than say Tech, Houston, UTSA etc.

She is probably 2 shy from 1st Quartile

She got into Texas A&M and UTD in Early Nov. Waiting for other results to trickle in.

UTD in the ME major and Texas A&M in general engineering?

Congratulations! Where else did she end up applying? As someone above mentioned, she could still apply to Alabama and get the cost down to less than 20k a year. That’s where my oldest son goes and we’re in Houston. They have a wonderful mechanical engineering program.

First rate facilities and we can’t complain about the outcomes.

I was hesitant my son chose it over a top 10 ME program.

He said not to worry. He was right.
