I am out of state and recieved a 25k scholarship per yr, but i’m afraid the tuition is still going to be too expensive. Does anyone know if they reduce the your financial aid due to receiving a scholarship?
Yes, unfortunately. My daughter received the $25K scholarship and UVM has indicated they will receive no further aid after looking at data from FAFSA.
Did you go? We went to admitted students day on March 29th. My son didn’t commit that day, but I have a feeling he will. We both enjoyed the Honors College presentation. They split the students and parents into separate groups, so I didn’t hear his side, but he definitely looked comfortable there. And Lake Champlain was so much more beautiful that we expected.
We are visiting UW Seattle soon. I have a feeling he’ll find it too big after UVM.
We actually switched it up and did a visit day at University of Washington, instead. My daughter LOVES Burlington (& Seattle) but has ended up thinking she will choose one of the SLACS she was admitted to instead. She is feeling like those two schools will be a touch larger than she wants - and she has decided she really wants a four year residential experience. I am 90% sure she will be giving up her spot at both schools.
My daugher toured the campus and really liked the school. The students and faculty were friendly and welcoming during the tour. One area of concern was the student recreation center, mainly the gym. It seemed really small and I don’t see how it can accomdate 12K undergrads. Anyone have any insight?
You arent talking about the wellness gym in central, are you?
I don’t think so. We toured the gym that overlooked the fields. Great view but the gym was very small for the size of the school. Some of the other schools we are considering have great gyms for the students. I was wondering if we missing something.
We just received notice the decision date is extended to May 15. Does anyone know if the housing portal date will extend as well?
As of a few minutes ago, the deadline for dorm/meal selection is still May 3rd and the dorm assignments drop on May 20th.
Good to know! Thanks. My son is visiting UW Seattle for an admitted students tour on April 24th, so we are cutting it kind of close. I think he’ll find UW too big and too urban and he’ll choose UVM.
Today, via email: “You can review and update your learning community preferences through the Housing & Meal Plan Contract until May 17.”
Above a few people talked about buses from the Double Tree for admitted students days.
How do I find out if they exist for the admitted student day on the 26th April? If so, we might change our booked accommodation to that location. Thanks,
From the invitation: “Should you have specific questions about the event (or if you need accommodations for a physical disability), please contact Liz Hamlin-Volz at Elizabeth.Hamlin@uvm.edu or at (802) 656-1499”
We stayed at the Doubletree the night before our visit a couple of weeks ago. It was incredibly convenient to hop on the shuttle to campus and back in the afternoon. I took advice from a previous poster: NO need to be the first to check in bc it takes a while for them to shuttle everyone over and once on campus, you’ll be seated to wait for rest of group before they start presentations.
After the visit on campus, we drove into town and parked near Church St to walk around a bit, see the lake, etc.
It was a great visit! Very well-organized! Enjoy!
Yeah, we felt the same way about the gym. This doesn’t seem all that promising, but they had planned for new facilities…https://www.uvm.edu/facilities/multipurpose-center
Has anyone seen any movement on the wait list? My son got deferred then waitlisted at UVM AND CU Boulder. Just got offered a spot at Boulder but is
still hoping for UVM.
Do you mind sharing stats with context (eg weighted and unweighted gpa, test scores, # aps with scores if avail, extracurricular- have a junior also interested in those schools. Good luck at UVM- Boulder is great too! Both seem to have very happy, positive communities (happy kids = thriving kids).
3.8 unweighted

4 years working at Kumon learning center
Helps care for grandmother with Alzheimer’s
And CU Boulder just offered him a spot. Fair warning…Colorado schools give very little need based aid to OOS students. He got merit scholarships but for what OOS tuition is, it’s peanuts
Not sure how generous UVM is. Daughter was deferred EA then accepted but for a spring start and given zero merit so we would have been on the hook for full price. It was sad it was her top choice but she wanted nothing to do with starting in the spring and recognized with 2 in college this fall we can’t pay full price. She’s going elsewhere. I think very high stats kids probably get decent merit but she would be classified as average stats with great extra-curriculars. Good Luck!
