U. Vermont Class of 2028 Official Thread

Just thought I would share in case anyone is following this thread that had a child who was accepted for spring 2025 but wanted fall 2024. My daughter got an email from UVM on Sunday offering her a spot in her major (animal science) for this fall, but at full price. We told her she could appeal for $$ but she said no she will stick with the school she committed to as the price is better and it was highly unlikely that UVM would come close to the price we will pay out of pocket.

So long story short they are starting to offer fall placements to those they accepted for the spring. I would imagine if they run a waitlist that might start to see some movement too. Best wishes to your kids!

I know of someone who got off waitlist (for fall entry)
they had applied EA and been strung along since then!

Yes the phrase “strung along” is exactly what we said. She was an EA candidate that was deferred to RD, then accepted with a spring start, then 5 days after May 1st they came back offering her a spot for the fall. It was ridiculous!

oh geez, that is a LOT!

Ended up happening to me too, was just way too expensive. Kinda pointless to offer merit scholarships when they give out that amount in aid no matter what. Got my hopes up for a full ride, LOL!!

Do you mind sharing stats/ number of ap (including 12th planned), unweighted gpa, test scores, extracurricular, type of high school?

Helpful to understand what a waitlist to admit candidate looks like given so many post about kids with 9+ aps, 3.9-4.0 gpa, 1500/35+

Hi,

My daughter was accepted but offered a spring start, so was not waitlisted at UVM. She was waitlisted at UMASS though. She accepted a spot at another school but a few days after the May 1 deadline UVM offered her to start in the fall instead. She declined as it would have been full-price OOS tuition for us, with no merit awarded.

She had well-rounded extra-curriculars (band, sports, clubs, theater), a volunteer role she has been loyal to for a long time relating to her intended major, a summer internship also relating to her intended major. She was appointed to a teen advisory board for our city’s library. But her grades were in the lower 3’s, which surely hurt her. Remote schooling in 9th grade and some personal issues impacted her gpa. She had a total of 5 APs and applied test optional.

I’m not sure how to classify our high school, I would say it’s fairly competitive public high school in a coastal Boston suburb. Many students choice in to our school from area communities due to the selection of courses, reputation, and athletics.

Good luck!

Some demographics of the incoming class: “Enrollment figures are promising for Fall 2024, continuing last year’s record geographic diversity with more than half of incoming undergraduates hailing from outside of New England.”
