*****UC Berkeley 2021 Waitlist Thread*****

Everyone still waiting for a response should probably give up already, as this thread is now about how people can apply for housing/fpf.
Even the Cal Twitter account thinks you should give up. Your application never mattered.

If you pay the deposit for waitlist admission, can you forfeit it if you receive admission from another waitlisted college?

@jahvascript - I disagree. My D got in off the waitlist but declined, so will a few others. Also some students that were originally accepted may back out as other schools release their waitlists. I wouldn’t give up until this month plays out… Good luck to those waiting!

Now that some of us are off of the waitlist, and the housing deadline passed for the previously admitted student in March, and the waitlisted students have until June for housing, does that mean that the addmitted waitlisted students must room together?

@jahvascript don’t give up. I know I probably won’t get mine as well (EECS international), and I know that the wait is debilitating, but just hang in there.

We’ll only know what’s out there for us when Cal lets us know officially, but hang in there and good luck. If it all plays well, we’ll be attending CS61A this fall together.

(A Cal rejection means I won’t be attending college in the US though and it kinda bothers me a lot :S )

I NEED HELP, I just got in for EECS and I’m thrilled !!! But I also got a full ride scholarship to UCSB and was starting to fall in love with it. Really don’t know what to do, any opinions?

I just declined my waitlist acceptance offer, hope someone else who really wants to go here can get in the next wave!

Hey everyone. Did anyone received a confirmation via email for SIR? I got accepted to the January 2018, but I had the opportunity to choose fpf Berkeley and it seemed to go through. After clicking confirm, it says “congratulation…” and we will see you on fall something like that; the letter never appeared ever again though, and Berkeley never sent me an email that I got into the fpf or any confirmation letter for the SIR AND THE fpf. But I am guessing I got into the fpf program or …? Who’s having the same problem? Please if anyone received a confirmation email for fpf and sir, please tell me. I think I’ll call the admission office on Monday. I’m just confuse, ugh. Good luck guys!

@Lifeissohard I just got an email confirming and I did it at almost 12 hours prior to the email

@Habesha7 woah I’d choose full ride at UCSB. I’ll go where the money goes. Full ride is amazing. By the way what major did you get in for at Cal and UCSB?

y’all i got in but i committed to brown but cal is more affordable. ugh help.

@socal1998 ahh, confirming what? Fpf or SIR or both? Also, did you get accepted to January 2018 or through fpf right away? I need to call for a confirmation email.

But if you see tasks and like notifications it’s obviously means your are in the system. I also made a Berkeley email. I’m just so paranoid plus I’m confuse if I got into fpf or not.

Thanks

@nervous17yearold Great job! Brown is located in a region that is colder than Berkeley and has a student body much different than Cal. Brown’s student body is known to be one of the most welcoming, cooperative, and out-going student bodies out of the whole Ivy League. Brown’s culture and student body is actually the reason why some Harvard and Yale admits go to Brown lol. Although Brown may have unfavorable weather, Brown is a small private school, so you will have much better relationships with Brown professors than Cal professors. I do not know about grade deflation at Brown, but I know Cal is known for grade deflation. If you are looking for software related majors, Cal is definetly one of the best universities in the world for sofware and engineering. If money is not an issue or not much of an issue, I would recommend going to Brown, however, everyone’s opinion is different. Again, great job on your acceptances! Both schools are amazing schools!

I was accepted off of the waitlist into L&S for Spring 2018 as well, but I have a hard decision to make between NYU and Berkeley. I would really appreciate it if you guys could check out this other discussion I made about it

@SpicyRamen YO i’m kinda in the same situation (deciding between nyu and berkeley)

Yes @ritarta

My S is accepted off waitlist for January 2018. He will consider going to UCB only if he gets FPF Berkeley + guaranteed on-campus housing. But we are still very confused about housing. Berkeley housing website lists the following deadlines:

New Fall Program for Freshmen (FPF) Students April - May 2, 2017 Early June 2017
New Freshmen Admitted Off Waitlist May - SIR Deadline Early June 2017
New January Start and Global Edge Students July - October 1, 2017 Starting late October 2017

If he is able to sign up FPF, then he is not considered as a January Start? And he will get the same priority as other regular admitted FPF students and guaranteed housing for fall semester? He will also get all other campus services such as library?

@soccerjumper Yeah he’ll have priority for fall housing + all regular student services. Only difference is his class choices are slightly restricted for the first semester (although most if not all of the prerequisites to declare a major in the college of L&S are offered). There’s no difference between a regular admit and an fpf student except for the fact that class sizes/available subjects are different. You get the same perks socially and academically (if not more since you have a private adviser - you do have to pay 2000usd extra for fpf though since you’re in smaller classes!)
