UC Berkeley class of 2020 undergraduate Engineering applicants.

@Gumbymom
So does that mean all who received the LOR requests were border?

@10s4life .
Thanks for giving me hope. Hope you and I are really similar applicants because it looks like you are one of top applicants to me, whereas I think I am not really that good.
Hope we both get in too

I know UC Berkeley regents come out on Feb. 12th.
Does anyone know when UCLA regents come out?

@Andrew545: According to the UCB website, LOR’s were sent out randomly. Some recipients were probably borderline and many were not.

My son is currently studying Mechanical Engineering at Berkeley, and it’s his second semester there.
He went through what you guys are going through right now last year.
So I know how dreadful the application process and the wait are.
If you have any question, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Good luck to both of you.

@10s4life
Oh… Wow… Thanks.LOL
Did you get selected for regents of UCLA?
I heard it is hard to get selected for regents of more than one school.

@NParker you’re highly qualified. I’d be surprised if you didn’t get in! Are you in-state or OOS?

@10s4life @NParker
i just want to ask one thing. if you see my stats i played for school varsity only for freshmen year with all-state. i never received athletic all-league thing and scholar athlete but a lot of people have both.
i know scholar athlete is related to school.
is all league thing also related to school?

@10s4life

Yes, my son absolutely loves it there.
He enjoys the intellectual challenge of the coursework.

I think he transferred around 40+ of AP credits.
Berkeley accepted all of the credits, but there’s definitely a limitation in terms of fulfilling certain requirements.
For example, only a maximum of two of the six Humanities/Social Science course requirements may be met by AP.

In the case where the requirements were met, he chose to move on.
For instance, he took multivariable calculus and second semester of physics directly.
He didn’t think it’s necessary to repeat.

I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more question.

@10s4life … Most people say regents is based only on merit.
When they say merit, is it typically meaning like only my academic work including grades, classes, and standardized score ??
Or, is it based on whole application. For example, someone can have really unique extracurricular, activities, and essays. So, admission officer would value that person as really high achiever.

@10s4life
Other than academic, why is it only athletic achievement? how about stuffs like orchestra, acapella? Other than baseball, I also have many achievements in musics. If athletic achievement matters, then shouldn’t other activities be considered too?

I just want to ask one thing
For regents coming out on Feb. 12th
Will result be out on MAP at 12AM Pacific time, or is it going to be later??
I at least know everything is based on Pacific time while I live in eastern area.

@hansomeboy

Last year, my son received the Regents notification on Tue, Feb 10, 2015 at 12:42 PM PST.

@10s4life
I was going through last year applicants’ thread, and I found someone with a 3.6 unweighted GPA getting Regents which is supposed to be only for top 1~2%.
I feel like Cal admission is very unpredictable, and it gives me little hope even I can be regents. LOL

It’s probably less predictable than we imagine – we just don’t know the exact rubric. But I saw an old 2004 rubric that showed how applicants can get admission points for things like “1st gen to go to college”, “English not spoken in the home”, moving x times in 4 yrs", and other “hardship/obstacles overcame” issues which might bump up the app of an otherwise lower stats candidate.

@10s4life
same…
hope we both get in at the end

So does admission today include a Regents scholarship, even if out of state? The letter said nothing about the Regents scholarship or any other scholarship.

@theorist Congrats on early admission! So if you scroll to the bottom of the page with the letter, you should see some links saying ‘Freshman conditions of admission’ and ‘Freshman FAQ.’ If there is one that says ‘R&C Scholarship Information’ then you got invited to interview for the Regents Scholarship. If you did get invited, then schedule your interview as soon as possible by following the links to get the time and place you want! (I learned about that from other CC threads).

Got into Letters and Sciences. Computer Science will be my major.
