Rejected from my number one on my 18th birthday! In state (I live 10 minutes from cal) with 3.83 UW and 4.05 W with three concussions. 1470 superscored SAT with 760 math and 710 english. EC of varsity volleyball (captain senior year, 2nd team all league senior year, state and norcal regional champion junior year), performing arts (school musical all for years, advanced choir three years, advanced drama), activism (feminist club, QSA), and a job for two summers. Congrats to those who got in!
didn’t get regents. oh well
My daughter did get the email Sunday and got accepted to Berkeley. She is a film major, not first generation student. I’m a single mom and it took me years to get my BA from Cal State LA. I’m a Special Education Assistant. She had a solid 3.9 GPA but SAT not as high as she would have liked. Congratulations to all that were accepted and to all of the students accepted or not, be proud of your accomplishments, know your worth and know that a driven student will succeed wherever they are! My heart is with all of you! Our future leaders!!
@batmanwow there are no inside looks to Berkeley’s acceptance tendencies. Good grades and test scores are very important. But, just like other elite schools - wonderful ECs you are passionate about and leadership and great essays are important too. If you have a hook - 1st gen to go to college, URM, athlete…well that is the best and can put you over the edge. Trust me, I have alot of knowledge on this. I will stop short there…but have alot of experience helping in this field.
My son was accepted! He’s a legacy here, 4.5; 33 ACT L&S. Lots of scholar/athlete awards; Varsity football and track; won league in discus; national community service awards and local ones as well with special needs kids. Also accepted to Duke; UCLA; Vandy; UM; UVA and w/l at Georgetown (legacy) but wanted McDonough; w/l at Brown too. Rejected from Penn (Wharton); Princeton; Yale and Harvard. Accepted to many safeties. No hooks and chose not to try to get in through football at the Ivies much to my disagreement. Financial aid stuff is BS, we finished some, did not finish others and schools sent emails letting us know. Son chose to ignore all emails for the time being.
@trishty thanks for your honesty on your son! And, congrats!!
Accepted
College of letter and science
SAT: 1540
UC GPA: 4.0, W: 4.25
EC/LOR-ok
In state
S18 rejected - energy engineering.
Accepted to the College of Letters and Science!
I never thought I would get in! Congrats to all those who got in!
You all seem to have all the answers, what do you need my kids info for. My kids stats or background doesnt help anyone. You just want to be able to say “AHHH thats why they got in”, instead of congratulating them on their merit and achievements. 1 got into to UCLA and was 1 was rejected, 1 got into Brown and 1 was rejected. EXPLAIN that? you cant because every student is unique in their own right and to diminish that with your questioning about my kids or anyone else’s is actually shameful. Stats, EC, life experiences, passion, determination, leadership, community service that you actually do because you love it, creativity, a students ability to write well thought out passionate essays that show “who” they are not what their SAT or ACT scores are is what stands out on applications. Go badger someone else
I am also surprised at the person who will not answer what might have helped her smart, involved, deserving twins to get in. Almost every applicant is all of those things. Certain things put you over the edge sometimes.
Also, legacy is not considered at all at cal. Your kid got in on his own.
@Twinmomhell At this point honestly just shut up, I’m done being polite to you, if you haven’t realized that every time you “contribute” to the thread you make enemies than my god you are something else. Get off the thread, and to make great use of your ability to capitalize words, SHUT YOUR MOUTH FOR ONCE. Good day :).
Got into L&S and want to declare CompSci (BA) as my major after 2 years
How hard is it to get into that and meet the GPA requirement?
I got into Berkeley with a 1490 SAT and 4.0 UW / 4.36 UC GPA
Do you think I can make it?
Also is Berkeley really stressful and hard? I also got into UCSB and was considering that
@Twinmomhell @dreamsofbeach @YaBoyAndre At this point you should all be polite and either congratulate another applicant on their acceptance or don’t post at all. Otherwise your posts may be flagged by a moderator for breaking the TOS. Best of luck to you all and your kids.
does anybody on here attend berkely would love to know more about the obvious rigor and student life
rejected but that’s ok!
psychology
uc gpa 4.27w / 3.91uw
34 act
decent essays, barely-there ECs
accepted: ucsd, uc davis, uci, ucsc, uc riverside, cal poly slo, sdsu, csulb
waitlisted: ucsb
rejected: ucla, berkeley
and that wraps up college decisions for me! will very likely commit to ucsd. thanks guys!
Ok, can we all take a deep breath, then congratulate and encourage each and every kid?
Congratulate to all who got into Cal. My boys, both engineering students, love the school and the community. But, it’s a lot of work and you have to work hard to excel!
For those who did not get into Cal, hold your head high. Y’all seem driven, diligent, responsible great kids. No matter where you go, keep working hard! You will find success anywhere as long as you keep the good working habits!
@10s4life don’t lump me in this, she came after me, sending me private messages, harassing me, I responded if you don’t like my response don’t read it, scroll on. My kids hate this site and asked me to never post any of their stats or personal information and I will respect their request, so back off and move on. Several of you attacking me are taking away from others excitement and accomplishments.
Current berkeley student who got off from the waitlist last year in may. Make sure to write the optional essay as it increases the chance for you to get accepted:)
wow @prideful you have amazing stats and will do amazing at ucsd!!!
