UC Berkeley - Class of 2022 Applicants Thread

@Twinmomhell I didn’t attack you nor did I take away from your kids accomplishments. Congrats, you must be very proud. However arguments like this can’t continue on the forum. It’s best to just ignore those that are harassing you on the site. If you experience any other issues with the user sending you private messages you can block her or flag the posts for further review.

Quick question. I was accepted into College of Letters and Science and I’m trying to get my CalNetID, but it pops up “Forbidden
You are not allowed to view this page.”
Did anyone else get this message?

@Twinmomhell Congrats on your daughter’s accomplishments and great results - you deserve to be proud and to celebrate and I am sorry that others on the thread are attacking. But it would be really helpful if you calmed down your postings as well and either take some time away from here to celebrate your children’s success instead of responding to every negative remark. You have a lot to celebrate and wonderful decisions to make with your kids.

@10s4life I never said you attacked me I apologize if it read that way. I said don’t lump me in with them I was minding my own business, now I have 2 crazy people messaging me about my kids information, and yes it does take away from their accomplishments. I will definitely take your suggestion.

anyone here thinking of appealing their decision? help!

@LvMyKids2 Thank you! That is quite helpful to know.

@twinmomhell i did not come after you! I politely asked in the public forum if you would answer if your kids were 1st generation or URM or had hooks. You did not respond, so I went and asked through private messages. Your response was mean and very defensive. It answered it for me right away, as someone who is so mean to another, and would not answer the question, is actually answering the question. No one ever said anything about diminishing accomplishments. As I have mentioned to you, the official decision posts on CC have “ethnicity, gender, financial aid, hook” information for which almost everyone answers. I have never seen anyone comment “oh congrats and you got in bc of XYZ”. It is for information purposes only, just like grades and test scores, etc. It is a very common known fact that hooks help. It does not mean automatic “in” - but it helps. I wish you and your twin girls luck…clearly you are very irritated and defensive about hooks. Good day!

@LvMyKids2 Let’s calm down and back off a little here. This should be a time of happiness for those admitted, for moving on for those who didn’t, and for overall relief that this admissions process is over for our kids this year. Congratulations to everyone for their hard work regardless of the outcome. I, for one, am going to go have that champagne I put in the refrig last night. My S was not accepted at Berkeley, but we are grateful overall. I wish you all the best of luck in your endeavors.

@knowledgeispower18 You rock. Thanks so much, and you too!

@Twinmomhell I feel unfortunate for your daughters to have you as their mom.

I GOT WAITLISTED WOW IT FEELS LIKE I GOT ACCEPTED CUZ I NEVER THOUGHT I HAD A CHANCE. ANYWAYS, does anyone know when waitlist results come out? I know it comes after may 1st but like when do people start hearing back?

@LvMyKids2 Just so you know because of CA Prop 209, public universities in CA are forbidden from seeing race or using race in determining decisions. Therefore being a URM doesn’t apply as a hook. What does factor in is financial background and being a first gen student. And that is used to help equal the playing field when it comes to test prep, grades, and extra circular opportunities of students from different backgrounds.

@ningve Speech is a powerful tool. If you use it judiciously and positively, we all win. If you use it to hurt, demean, or insult, we don’t.

@ningve LOL they are grateful actually

@Twinmomhell Thanks for the advice! And I’m sorry that you interpreted our curiosity as badgering. I want to say that some of us look for others’ background and statistics as a baseline of comparison for our own accomplishments. THAT is not meant to diminish your own children’s success but, in contrast, to highlight it.

@10s4life Hi! I am well aware of California. I asked @Twinmomhell bc she had originally posted in an IVY thread of all the acceptances of her twins. URM, 1st generation, legacy are hooks. It is on the application and schools have other ways to identify. That is not the point. As you know, all the official results pages on CC have a space for ethnicity, gender, applied for FA, hooks, and so I asked. It is very rare to get in so many Ivy’s without some hook - it could be athlete too. It does not dimish, it is a question of interest which clearly people want to know, or it would not be asked on official decision threads. By the response and defensiveness of the person above, I have my answer. They had a hook and that was all I wanted to know. They are very lucky twins and will have a hard time making a choice between the amazing schools.

@sophie052900 yes!!

your calnet ID is in ur profile, you click on ur name in the top right-hand corner and click on profile and that’s where it is @CompSci1999

@sonia1216 wow congrats! how was the waitlist experience? did u commit to another college than change your mind to Berkeley! I was planning to write the optional essay, but not sure about a topic diff than all my insight questions. Do u know if there is an order on the waitlist?

@Jagomezpr I don’t think sending in LORs was possible without the invite. Two years ago, when my S received a request, he was given a link to a prompt where we enters the emails addresses of his recommendations. From there, the recommenders received an invite and instructions to submit the recommendation. All this is linked to the student ID. If you had decided to send some other way, I don’t think it would have helped or hurt, either way.

@Mariri27 Thank you very much! But now when I go to reset my passphrase, it pops up “The system is experiencing problems, please try again in a short while. For assistance, please contact calnet@berkeley.edu.” Lol!
