This is the third (and last) college application cycle for our family. D graduates UCB in May. S is in second year at ULCA.

My kids fared well in UC acceptances. Our local public high school is moderately competitive and I believe my kids benefited from holistic review. All three were top 5% applicants from their school but no where near as accomplished as some of the posters here.

Also, a question - is the minimum requirement for senior grades a 3.0 weighted or unweighted? My kid got straight Bs but every single class was an AP class, plus he took 2 community college classes where he got As.

@ProfessorPlum168 It’s unweighted.

Yes, that happened to my D.

anyone know how to get their Cal net ID and set up their passphrase?? thank you!

@ProfessorPlum168

Good question. I believe it’s only classes taken on campus. There is a pre-req calculator on the EECS website.

https://www2.eecs.berkeley.edu/Undergrads/calculator.shtml

L&S Computer Science Pre-Major GPA Calculator

“Please enter letter grades for each course (only uppercase letters and +/- symbols work) and leave courses not taken on campus or cleared via AP credit blank.”

Essays hit and miss, some awesome, some didn’t show his assets or passion.
He did not have the email; but didn’t qualify for financial aid.

This was my oldest and so proud of all his hard work.
To be honest, even though the IB program was his choice and a good fit, I was concerned that it wouldn’t make a difference. For him I think it did. It seems to depend on what the highest courses are offered at your school.

Thanks for sharing all your stats, EC’s, and advice. I noticed some of you have outstanding stats and yet didn’t get into colleges I think you would have been a shoe in for. Their Loss. You all seem so bright and level headed. Thanks also for mentioning Khan Academy as a free tutor site… my D could use; as well as I to brush up ; )

Congrats and well wishes!

Btw, forgot to include his SAT was 1500

At Berkeley, are all waitlisted candidates offered the same pathway options? Or does it vary by colleve/major? Anyone know? If you’re someone that was waitlisted, could you please mention your major and what pathways were offered to you? Thanks!

I might not get to go due to how expensive UCB is, plus the fact that it’s across the country for me ):

@sophie052900 for fall program for freshman option, it was only available to l &s students. I dont think any l & s waitlisted student had an option of traditional pathway. I don’t know about other majors…
