UC Berkeley - Class of 2022 Applicants Thread

@evaluna115 Michigan said their EA decisions would be out “on or before” December 24 but they came out on the 20th, so theres a slight chance it might be earlier

If Cal said it would be on a specific date, I would take it as truth. Won’t stop me from checking though.

@psssthoy do they send an email first or do we have to check on our own?

Ugh!! March 29th…Was really hoping for this Friday! Having to wait another 10 days seems cruel.

Yes, I applied to Haas GMP, recieved interview request a week and a half ago and had my interview a week ago over skype.

So I know the email said “late afternoon, early evening” but what time do you think that’ll be that decisions come out? 5:00pm like ucla?

@quinnbossel what email? was there one set recently?

how selective is bioengineering at Berkeley? I got rejected for it at UCLA and waitisted at SD…:frowning: 1570 SAT, 3.9 UW, 4.5 UC GPA

D applied Haas and had interview last Thursday, she found out she was accepted by WashU Olin after the interview and she is so excited. I know Haas is higher ranked, but do undergrads can’t get into Haas until junior year?

@Jagomezpr I did not receive a notification email for UCLA - I manually checked the portal last Friday 5pm. Even until now, I haven’t got an email about my application decision notification from UCLA, but I did get the “Bruins Day” and “housing” email a day after, so I guess that counts. I think to be safe, just keep on checking the portal for UCB

I applied to UCB for Biological Sciences (Cell and Developmental Biology), I did not receive a request for a letter of rec? Is this a bad sign? ACT is 31 and W GPA is 4.32. Got into UCSD, rejected from UCLA…

@wingjuer Haas Alumna here - You’re right. Haas is a very popular school so students must take all the pre-requ classes and apply in Fall of sophomore year in hopes of starting Haas in Fall of their Junior year. It’s too bad it’s done this way. I was very fortunate to be accepted into Haas, but I had many friends who defaulted to Economics when they got declined by Haas — that’s a real shame to not be able to pursue your desired major. This is something for your D to think about.

Is it true that if you get waitlisted or denied from UCLA your chances of being admitted to UC Berkeley are increased?

No, I don’t think being denied by UCLA means your chances go up for Berkeley. Both my students were admitted to both. I think UCLA are more like the ivies in that they are looking for leaders. Berkeley is looking for smart people. Very often time leaders are smart people and vice versa but not always.

@preppedparent

Agree. My D got UCLA Regents, but didn’t receive Berkeley early Regents invite. She has more credits on leadership side. Her UC essay should have reflected it.

The students received Berkeley early at her school are truly the smartest students in the class.

I’ve seen multiple posts about correlation between UCLA and Berkeley admission. There’s NONE whatever. It should be a sticky post. In addition, my S got Regents for both and was either rejected or waitlisted at a couple of Ivies and some other private colleges. Go figure!

Both mine got at least one ivy admission. One is a Berkeley regents now. They both turned down UCLA but in hindsight wish they had attended. Hubby is a bruin. Oh well, there’s always grad school.

Does anyone have an approximate time for when Berkeley decisions will come out on the 29th?

@Calculator1127 I was rejected from Northeastern too! (and UCLA lol) and it totally crushed me since northeastern is considered a “target” in my elitist school but it gives me hope that you were accepted to UCLA

its 5 pm with the UC’s @collegesavant1
