UC Berkeley - Class of 2022 Applicants Thread

i applied to 5 UC’s and got accepted to all 5. i was really counting on UC’s because i didn’t want to move out of state and i especially just wanted to stay home in LA. i know people who have applied to like 4 or 5 UC’s and have only gotten into 1.

thank you so much! i did the pre collegiate program at cal which was totally awesome so ya i was wondering if that would be a plus.

Does anybody know when UCB is coming out? I know the date is the 29th, but does anybody know if it could be sooner? (it was probably in this chat somewhere but I can’t find it)

What is this email?

i got the email, and I’m from Norcal

what email? What does it say?

Wow that’s a lot from SoCal with only 1 so far from NorCal…hmmmm. @ironweasal you’re throwing my experiment off lol! Still interesting

@hopelessinOC @jeremycohrt the email says:
Dear
___,

Congratulations on your admission to the University of California, Berkeley!

You are encouraged to review your 2018-19 conditional offer of financial aid on CalCentral. Every student receiving financial aid at UC Berkeley has a CalCentral account, which can be accessed via MAP@Berkeley or by using your CalNet ID.

they came out yesterday at around 3 am for what berkeley says is a “small batch of students”. so if you didn’t get an email that doesn’t mean you didn’t get in. but for those of us who did get an email, we are in obviously because they already have our financial aid packages together.

@lostboyjourney & @stevienickana my S did Berkeley summer experience too so I hope you’re right! I know when he got in there was a video saying 40% of them usually got accepted. But my S school did not send in any UC ID…he found program on his own. School had never heard of it. Did mention in UC application though

@hopelessinOC @jeremy_cohrt yesterday’s acceptance emails. Look back at thread for yesterday…

and then the email finishes off with:
Congratulations, again and welcome to Berkeley!

Sincerely,
Financial Aid and Scholarships Office

so the email was NOT from the admissions office, rather from the financial aid and scholarships office. so if you didn’t apply for financial aid you weren’t going to get the email. if you’re international the email isn’t for you either. and if you DID apply for financial aid and didn’t get an email, don’t worry because berkeley sent out an emailing following that saying:
Dear _____,

You may have recently received a message from our office directing you to financial aid information on CalCentral. This notification was inadvertently sent to a small group of applicants prior to the release of admission decisions and should not be considered final.

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions will release final admissions decisions in MAP@Berkeley on Thursday, March 29th. Financial aid information will also be available in CalCentral at that time.

Please know there is no action you need to take at this time. We sincerely apologize for any confusion or additional concern this may have caused for you and your family at an important time during the college admissions process.

Did anyone OOS get the email? I am from Ohio, did not get the email, but I think that makes sense since OOS don’t get financial aid, right?

@18college1111 out of state’s do get some sort of financial aid IF the need is there and IF they applied. i personally am from los angeles and my friend is as well and we both got emails. but some of our other friends didn’t. i believe i saw some people from like michigan get the email. so i believe very few out of state’s got it. mainly it was california kids that did.

@knowledgeispower18 what was told to us is that just by doing the program that we did, we already have a higher chance of getting into berkeley. so anytime that you do a program for the schoo you’re applying to, your chances of admission are higher. i did 2 programs for UCLA and i got in. so i believe your son has a great chance of getting in! and berkeley hosts a lot of programs so they’re all different, but for my particular program we did have to send in our UC application ID.

S applied to 6 UCs , rejected by 4 so far, accepted at 1, and who knows with Berkeley. I find this utterly disappointing considering he is California born and raised, has a high GPA and will graduate summa cum laude at a competitive high school, all APs and honors classes, and a 32/33 superscored ACT. What does it take? He will go out of state to the colleges who accepted him EA and offered him Honors College and healthy scholarships. Don’t mean to sound bitter; I’m not. I’m just really disappointed by the the state of the University of California admissions.

@stevienickana thank you! We’re hoping! It’s his dream school! He actually did 2 summer programs there, but also got LOR…so definitely reach school. And he didn’t get emails yesterday…and was pretty bummed… but today feeling optimistic again that there is at least a glimmer of hope still…maybe if he believes enough

@knowledgeispower18 I got the email and I’m in cencal (Fresno area)

@YoungOne4 …I hear ya! I’m sorry for your families experience. That happened to my older sons too…both ended up going to a CSU…and have loved it actually…one already have graduated. My lady son applied to 4 UCs accepted to UCD so far so we will see. Which did your son get into ?

I called UCB undergrad admissions. He was really really nice, and basically hinted that if you got the email you’re in but he obviously wasn’t supposed to say that directly. Most significantly, he said that the emails were supposed to go to a small group whose financial aid needed to be dealt with a bit early (I’m guessing those with regents or early acceptance) and that those who received the email were not supposed to be in that group yet. So if you didn’t get the email, don’t worry.

@YoungOne4 how were your son’s essays and ECs? that’s also an important component of the UC application.
