UC Berkeley - Class of 2022 Applicants Thread

I thought his essays were very strong. They were easy to read and genuinely expressed his voice. His ECs were few but focused. I just think he’s your average good kid and good student, and that seems to not be enough.

I was wondering if those that got the emails are low-income households?

@hanoverboard Thanks for the info. Do you mind explaining a bit more about how hinted it and what he meant by the ones that received the email aren’t supposed to be in the "group"yet? I got the email and just heard a lot about false acceptance letters from other schools in the past and a bit worried.

@Yaboical He kinda just mentioned how if you have financial aid info, it kinda could mean something good. But he did say that he wouldn’t all-out celebrate just yet, and to wait until Thursday for the official decision. And about the group thing, I’m not really sure, I think there was a group that got in early who were supposed to get the email but instead they sent it to the wrong group of admitted applicants!

@omidd i am from a low-income household and so is my friend who received the email but whether one is low-income or not seemed to have no correlation with who got the email.

oh okay. I thought so because the people in my school that got it are low income. Thank you!

@hanoverboard thank you!!!

Low income? Ahhh… I hope that is the case. I don’t get a penny from UCs, because my parents’ income is above poverty level.

@hanoverboard I am not sure about the regents or early decisions being the group they accidentally got lumped into, as we know several early admits and regents who didnt get the email. I also called I was told it was “only 2% of the applicant pool”, who got it accidentally and to “not worry, it was going be ok”. I felt like they were hinting as well, but i may be just reading into. Reality is until thursday none of us will know, so unfortunate this happened, was hoping for a peaceful week of waiting and not worrying. So for all of those worried about not getting the email don’t, it was only 1800-2000 that supposably got it, obviously they admit more than that.

@Twinmomhell I was saying that I thought maybe the regents/early admits were who the emails were supposed to go to, but they sent them to a different group accidentally

@Twinmomhell @hanoverboard and I just hope that the “different group” is a group of admits and not something else haha

According to the representative at the office of admissions, the email was sent out by a glitch in their system for a small number of students.

Those emails does not confirm that the student has been admitted.

The only legitimate decision will be the one that will be announced on the 29th.

Hope this helps with all the speculations and worries.

@Yaboical exactly lol. That would be traumatizing but I feel like he would’ve warned me if that was the case.

My son got the email and we are OOS (so I don’t think it was just in-state). While we did complete the FAFSA we don’t expect to qualify for Financial Aid.

I know this has been talked about already but I don’t know what is true and what is not. Has anyone called the office or anything and asked if no email means no acceptance? I didn’t receive the email, so should I expect rejection?

Strong essays
Very strong LORs
Waitlist for UCLA and Rejection from USC… Hoping Cal accepts me :-c

@Yaboical @hanoverboard that was what I said to them. I told them, Can you imagine getting an email saying congratulations on your admittance with your NAME on it, then to have to wait 5 damn days to open your portal with a rejection or even waitlisted? I said “that would be cruel”. I said at least when the other 3 UC’s completely screwed up and told students they were admitted who were actually rejected they cleared it up immediately not 5 days later. Thats when they said, “its going to be ok”. The one thing different about those other 3 situations was that admission decisions had already gone out. Just hoping “its going to be ok”.

@Twinmomhell yeah exactly, the way that they’re being so ambiguous yet not explicitly stating that the emails have zero correlation with admittance makes me so stressed. And the “it’s going to be okay” definitely sounds like a hint to me, but I’m probably looking too much into it

@uc2022hopeful yeah I did actually!! I’ve gotten into ucsd UCSB ucr uci UCSC and UC Davis… and then waitlisted to Ucla. It was a really big surprise for me considering I have a 1130 sat

The “its going to be okay” sounds good to me.
