UC Berkeley - Class of 2022 Applicants Thread

Uugh very frustrating! Latest twitter response says decisions realeased by 11:59 March 29 so not even close of business day but end of day. After what happened they should be releasing now! Heck for a lot of students they won’t know until March 30th! Not pleased at all decisions need to be made

Be realistic, if you financial aid applicants that gotten an email stating your acceptance, you got in. I make sense to think that they finished reading applications months ago and starting putting them into the system.

@YoungOne4 Same here. My oldest son is in his 3rd year at West Point got accepted to UCD, UCSD and was waitlisted at UCLA, so with our younger son’s better stats, we were thinking he would at least get the same. Well, my younger son was denied by UCLA, UCSD and USC. He was accepted to UCD and waitlisted at UCSB, so who knows. Honestly, I just don’t think he had a good enough story to tell. I see tons of kids who are getting in with far worse stats than him. The fact is that in this day and age…having a 4.4 GPA and 1420 SAT is pretty much average. Too many kids have those same stats and everyone belongs to school clubs, etc. I believe the key is to have a passionate story to tell. I just think my son did not have a good enough story. Hang in there…remember, if they aren’t happy, they can always look into transferring. :wink:

@antwaine, your point makes a lot of sense - and that is hopefully the case here. But remember that in 2012 UCLA accidentally sent “Congrats” financial aid letters to 894 waitlisted students… http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2012/04/ucla-sends-mistaken-congrats-to-894-applicants-and-then-apologizes.html

lol I remember how stressful all of this was. You can find out early whether you really got in or not through the summer session/cal central method

Why would a group of people who aren’t in the admitted pool be mistaken for none admitted and sent financial aid acknowledgment emails? And then not clearing it up? It’s cruel and unusual punishment!
I got accepted into UCSD UCLA and UCI Regents already so I am hoping the email was just a mistake of sending out too early and not mistake of informing the non-admits that they are admitted with the financial aid package.

SAT 1580
ACT 35
GPA 4.88

@Chrisq1 What’s that?

summer sessions at berkeley are open to everyone. if you sign up for one but you’re a rando then they need to make a calnet id for you which they then send. However if you are already admitted and are classified as presir you’re in the system and the calnet id they email you should be the one for you as a possible student. So when you check the calcentral everything will be different. There are also other indicators as well on MAP. if you have 4 addresses on there it is a good sign. Although that might not happen for a while.

presir means pre statement of intent to register

@Chrisq1 what do you mean by four addresses?

you have your permanent address and your mailing address on the MAP right? They are probably the same too like mine was but it doesn’t matter. What matters is that later on, the MAP will update and add another set of your mailing and permanent address on the MAP page if you got accepted. Essentially it’s their version of your address because they like confirm it and then use the version that they wrote. Like for example on my application it was like lowercase and my street name had court in it. Like two days before I got in they added another set and like made it more formal I guess and it was all in caps and instead of court they used ct for my address. When they mailed stuff to me this is what they put on. So basically if you get 4 addresses that is a good sign

wait how would you check on cal central if you got in, if you don’t know your CalNet ID?

It’s still too early to tell haha chill. That didn’t happen until likr a day or two days before decisions were released. Besides no one else has confirmed or checked yet. No use in analyzing every minutiae to the portal or calcentral. Although that’s exactly what I did

I guess we will just have to wait until the 29th or the 30th.

@Cocomou that is exactly my concern was it a bunch of waitlisted students that received the email Sunday. It makes me sick to my stomach. I heard it was 2% of applicants that got the email. How many does Berkeley waitlist each year? Anyone know?

I have four addresses since Jan

You dont actually have to wait. If you can’t wait like I couldn’t then you can try and find out now hahaha btw if yall get in then you might have me as your golden bear orientation leader. Also go greek guys! Best decision ever

@Twinmomhell 7977 were waitlisted last year according to their common data set (https://opa.berkeley.edu/campus-data/common-data-set) which is obvs more than 2% but idk i have the same feeling that us email recipients might be waitlisted ://

@Twinmomhell This was what an article said:

2015-2016 Freshman wait-listed students (students who met admission requirements but whose final admission was
contingent on space availability)
Number of qualified applicants placed on waiting list: 3,760
Number accepting a place on the waiting list: 2,445
Number of wait-listed students admitted: 1,340

@hopelessinOC
You might be surprised about getting financial aid. My husband and I are definitely middle class, and my daughter was tentatively offered $13,000 financial scholarship from a UC.
