My oldest is graduating from Berkeley in May. I am in shock that my youngest will likely follow them.
All Letters and Science students at Cal start off undeclared as freshmen, regardless what you put in your application. You declare around 2nd-3rd year after taking some classes, and possibly dept approval. You can pick anything in L&S but you have to have taken the classes for it. Only if you applied and got accepted into one of the other colleges (eg College of Chemistry, College of Engineering, etc) will you have a declared major upon entry. Yes there might be some impacted majors in L&S with restricted access, but they tend to move those into their own college . I thought I saw they indicated impacted L&S majors in the app?
** Upon admission to Berkeley, if you meet SEED Scholar’s program prerequisites (check Eligiblity/Nominee Status for more information), you may receive an invitation via Berkeley’s student portal to complete a SEED supplemental application.
** Be sure to include any and all leadership and diversity/service involvement on the activity list portion of the UC application, including STEM related clubs/teams (e.g. Robotics club, Girls Who Code, Math club, Chemistry club, etc.).
Economics is no longer a high demand major. You were admitted undeclared which is the normal process for economics majors at this time. Congratulations!
First line from your link - “As an impacted major in high demand, declaration of the Economics major is admission-based and students must meet specific criteria in order to be admitted.”
