My daughter did FPF when she started at Berkeley in Fall 2023. Her acceptance letter indicated that she was admitted as an FPF student. She wasn’t given an option. From the acceptance letter, she didn’t realize she was admitted through a special program (it was there, but she didn’t understand it), but we noticed it when she started the process to commit. At first, she was really bummed and confused, but she committed anyway after she learned that it’s common for students from her high school to be admitted through FPF if they are in the College of Letters and Sciences (likely because her school has a fairly low-percentage of students who attend four-year universities and is, in some ways, “underperforming”). She was not excited about FPF because students in the program have to take most of their classes at the Berkeley extension building, which is several blocks from the main campus, and she was afraid it meant she was in the “dumb” group. Of course, there are no “dumb” groups of students accepted to Berkeley, and even some Regent’s student will be admitted through FPF. In the end, the small classes sizes in the program really did serve her well during her first semester, and she still took one class on the main campus. She met some friends through the program, and she still lived in the dorms and was, otherwise, a regular Berkeley student. Most of her fellow students didn’t even know she was in FPF. And before she knew it, her FPF semester was over. She has loved Berkeley since day one! Feel free to let me know if you have more questions about FPF (keeping in mind that, every few years, they change the structure of the program, so the mileage may vary).

Where is admitted major listed? My daughter’s acceptance letter just says she was admitted to the College of Letters and Science, without specifying a major. Thanks!

All L&S admits to a non high demand major won’t have their major on the admit letter. They typically have until the 5th semester to formally declare a a major.

USC national merit scholarship didn’t apply to too many OOS- BU, Vandy waitlisted- not interested

GENERAL COMMENTS: seems to be getting tougher each year did not experience this much of a roller coaster with S 21 at USC

Will opt in to UCLA waitlist just as a close to home and big brother alternative but seems decided to be a CAL
