UC Berkeley Class of 2029 Waitlist and Appeal Discussion

People also lie about their grades?

it’s the last full week of June… throwback to February when berkeley actually gave some update/communication lol.

I’m planning to hop into the virtual front desk soon to check if there’s any update or at least get confirmation on whether there’ll be any movement at all (even if a really small one). It’d be great if you guys could try to join too so we can share information

im not gonna lie, i think most of us have given up lol. especially with the housing situation and how people have already gotten a time to schedule for classes, i think even if I get off the waitlist, I probably won’t go.

think about it this way: do you really want to go to a university where you get the leftovers for paying in excess of $40k…? i think whoever the mod is for this thread should just close it at this point so we forget about all of this for good.

yeah, probably true… either way, I joined the virtual front desk but the girl that answered me gave those generic ā€œaugust 1stā€ type of response.

Michigan just closed their waitlist… why can’t Berkeley do the same…

Well, it is essentially closed. They just too busy sorting out housing and other issues with the university before moving onto closing the waitlists.

called the out of desperation today… i was told that the very very few people who will be taken off the waitlist have already been identified. those who are getting off the waitlist will be notified in about two weeks. the rest will have to wait till august 1st to get an official notice. genuinely pathetic the way the school is handling waitlists this year

Wow, okay, that’s exciting but sad news… If none of us receive an email within the next 2 weeks we’ll get our peace of mind.

That’s honestly crazy. If they know who is getting off and who is not. Why not just close the waitlist? If they want to add a few people later on, why not email everyone about it and make a short list?

did they by chance provide an estimate of how many people they chose to take off the waitlist?
regardless, this is so weird.. if they already made their decisions, they should just release them and let it be. i imagine waiting even longer to let those few people off the waitlist would cause issues and stress with housing, financial aid, and registration.. so why wait?

they didnt give an estimate but they said ā€œvery very fewā€, so it could be anywhere from 1 to 20. the AO also said that they don’t even have enough housing for admitted students so those taken off the waitlists will be stuffed in whatever on campus housing is available.

Also they said everyone who is going to be admitted applied to L&S. If you applied for CNR, Engineering, CDSS, etc. You are chance of getting off the waitlist now is 0%

Any news on appeals ? Did anyone ask or know ?

Same thing as waitlists, you’ll know by August 1st, but AO said they expect no one is getting off of appeals this year due to the unusually high yield rate.

So, I joined the virtual front desk and they said they are not planning on taking anyone off the waitlist this year…

It was clearly a student, but he stated that from the data they received recently, there is no need to take anyone off the waitlist. So I don’t know if those 20 people will actually receive a notification between this and the next week like they said before to one of you.

I do believe they will close the waitlist by mid july, but the student still said the ā€œaugust 1stā€ deadline.

I’ll join once again in an hour or so to ask about that prediction of 20 people being accepted this week or next, or if it’s a mistake and it’s not happening anymore…

honestly, it’s so late that most students are settled with whatever university they are committed to. and the housing situation there is bad as well and people have gotten enrollment times already. so maybe we should be happy in a way to not put ourselves in a position where we are the second choice and we get the leftovers

Yeah, I joined once again and the information that I received was ā€œUm, I was not informed about that. What I know and was informed of is that we don’t have plans on taking anyone off the waitlist for nowā€.

But here is my question: if they know they won’t accept single person, why just don’t close the waitlist?

I’m 100% with you on that…

But the ā€œwhat ifā€ keeps bugging me a bit hahaha.

But yeah, I’m extremely happy with my choice right now and hope you guys are too!
