I realized you’re the student that other members talked about… Never Mind!
My nephew is waitlisted at UCLA, the WL form asks for 1st semester (12th) transcript and current grades for 2nd semester (12th), and another text box is for new information. Most of UCs evaluate waitlisted based on original UC application.
We discussed his options and decided to leave the spot for other potential Bruins.
I got waitlisted for UCB and want to ensure you cannot send a LOCI this year.
right?
Correct. You only opt into the waitlist with the form and that is it.
Sooo I was waitlisted for EECS and I filled out the form almost immediately. What are my chances of getting off?
Prior to last cycle, I would have said none. But last year there was a lot of WL movement so who knows? You might get lucky.
Unfortunately nobody can estimate your chances. As @ucscuuw said, the last two years have been very different.
Since you’ve already accepted a place on the waitlist, your best plan at this point is to choose a school from the ones you’ve been admitted to, and get excited about that school!
If you are admitted from the waitlist later, you can rethink everything at that point
Every waitlisted student asks about their chances of being admitted.
Please read the Waitlist FAQ’s.
Q: What are my chances of being admitted to UC Berkeley after being on the waitlist?
A: Because we will not know until early May whether any spaces will become available and because the waitlist is not ranked, our staff will not be able to forecast any student’s chances of being admitted. Should spaces become available, our review will focus primarily on your original application. The percent of students admitted from the waitlist depends on the number of enrollment spaces we have available and the number of students who opt-in to the waitlist.
Thanks guys!!
In 2018 my son was WL. Cal was his dream school so he was just excited it wasn’t a rejection! He wrote a strong LOCI and was accepted off the WL first round the first week of May. He’s now a proud alum and employee at Cal! If Cal is also your dream and you’ve made it this far, don’t give up hope! Congratulations, be very proud of yourself and remember, sometimes dreams come true and sometimes also, another school was your fate
Just for reference, UC Berkeley has discontinued the waitlist essay so no LOCI’s.
Is there any data that suggests that in state students have a higher acceptance rate from WL?
Unfortunately none of the UC’s breakout waitlist admits by residency. If UC Berkeley does not meet their IS, OOS or International enrollment targets by May 15th, then those are the students they will pull from the list.
I see what you mean. So short of any new data we should assume that IS, OOS and INT ratios roughly remain the same at each stage. Makes sense.
Would it be a bad idea to send a LOCI to admissions or my admission counselor it’s just I have major major accomplishments and achievements since applying last October and I would love to share. Like would it be worth it or would it hurt if i did?
This is what the Waitlist FAQ states:
Our office will make decisions based on the original application and the information in the waitlist opt-in form, only.
You can try but if they wanted updated information, they would not discontinued the waitlist essay.
Does everyone who applied to the college of LS and gets offered to waitlist get offered FPF? The wording says “If admitted, I would like to start my Berkeley career with the Fall Program for First Semester and I agree to being directly admitted to the program.”
Is this the same wording as last year? I saw that some people checked the FPF box last year but then had no mention of FPF in their acceptance. This wording seems like you are requesting FPF not just saying I would take it if it’s my only chance. I’m trying to gauge it with what they did for class of 2027
Last year for waitlisted students, FPF was an option you could select for all L&S students, however I did not see any waitlist L&S admits actually get admitted into the program (at least the students that posted on CC). I did not look at other social media sites.
Prior years to 2023, there were many waitlist admits that were accepted into the FPF program.
Also for this year, some regular admit students have been admitted directly into the program so I am not sure why last year was the exception?
Thank you for such a helpful reply! So if this is the only pathway identified am I only being offered to waitlist for FPF, i.e., traditional pathway is not an option for me? It says “Please review the potential pathways below” but FPF is the only pathway. I am able to submit without agreeing to the FPF pathway but I’m not sure if that’s a good idea since there are no other pathways.
