UC Berkeley Freshman Class of 2028 Waitlist/Appeal Discussion

Since there have been already direct admits into the program this year, I would select that option if you want a chance at attending UC Berkeley.

Does anyone know how to send LOCI to UC Berkeley admission? Even though they don’t accept any supplement material, I still wanna give it a try lol

I sent an email to the admin office and they said not to send anything.

My D has submitted without checking off FPF. She wants to resubmit with FPF, but she says she is not allowed… Any way to resubmit? Or once you did, you are not allowed to do? Please help.

I would contact admissions to see if she can make the change.

Hi! I’m so glad you brought this up because we were not aware of this. My D also did not check the box but would like to make that change. Were you able to contact the office and if so what response did you get?

My first post! I’ve enjoyed reading everyone’s posts on this thread, and I wish everyone the best of luck in the waitlist process. May all of the S24s and D24s be accepted to their college of choice and thrive wherever they go!

D24 was accepted to UC Davis but waitlisted at Cal, UCSB, UCSD, UCI. Rejected by UCLA. We live in the Bay Area and attended Aggie Day at UC Davis last weekend.

D24 applied to Rausser at Cal. Today is Cal Day and truly wish we could have gone. We remain committed to Cal as our first choice and are hopeful!

On the topic of FPF, I believe Rausser doesn’t have the option for FPF. Only L&S offers it. However, I believe Global Edge is offered for both L&S and Rausser.

Does it make sense to wait until May 15 to send in the SIR to UC Davis, just in case Cal accepts off the wait list earlier than May 15?

Is there any data on waitlist admits in L&S vs Rausser for 2023?

Thank you!

Waitlist admit data is not broken out by College since it will vary each year.

You can wait to SIR to UC Davis until May 15 but I always encourage students to focus on the school that loves you back.

As long as the student is ready to commit to Davis out of the acceptances they have, there’s no reason not to go ahead and send in the SIR, start preparing for orientation, housing, etc., and get excited!

If the student still isn’t sure about their choice between acceptances, they may want to wait until closer to the SIR deadline. But don’t hold off because of a waitlist. If the waitlist moves, the student can change direction at that time (if they still want to!)

I would guess one reason to wait on submitting the SIR would be to save on having to pay multiple registration fees in case a waitlist offer comes through? Not sure… But I do agree with you that if you already know the top choice of your current offers, it’s better to just submit the SIR ahead of May 15, especially as we’re really not expecting to hear back from waitlist decisions until after that date. This weekend my D24 attended a couple of admit day celebrations. She hasn’t committed either as she is on the fence. But as soon as we got home, I did encourage her to at least decline the ones she is definitely not attending to free up a waitlist spot for someone else, and she did. Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back! We’re in this together!

I do think that when the student is ready to make a choice among their admitted options, there’s psychological benefit from committing, looking forward to attending, and starting to make plans.

It’s important for students to start to feel excited and proud of where they are going, and this can be difficult when they are hanging on to a ā€œbetterā€ waitlist option in their mind.

Last year my son did get off the Cal waitlist and he attends Cal now… but before he was accepted off the waitlist it definitely benefited him to fully commit to his top choice from the schools where he’d been admitted.

My D couldn’t get a live assistance, so she left a message. Not sure if her request has been updated. (fingers crossed) How about your student?

Yes, she spoke to someone and gave them the information. It was updated the next day.

My son’s classmate was waitlisted and he is now stating he’s been accepted. This can’t be correct can it? I would think that Cal would not be notifying kids this early. Wouldn’t notifications come after the deadline to commit for accepted students?

Yes, there seems to be some issues regarding the waitlisted students and notifications. There was a glitch for several students that appeared to be admitted but then found out they were not. I have not heard that UCB was one of the problem campuses but it might be UC systemwide. Hopefully this student will confirm that the admit is actually true. There is also another poster whom stated their student was denied from the UCSC waitlist already. Waiting for confirmation on that situation also.

So far considering what I have seen here, does it mean that basically we can’t do nothing if waitlisted by UCB?

Yes, they only ask you to opt into the waitlist.

I have a question I think I know the answer to, but now that all decisions are done, waitlists are the only prediction fun I have anymore
When they say they admitted 1168 students off the waitlist last year, does that mean 1168 students accepted admission off the waitlist, or that they offered admission to 1168, and 800 (or some smaller number than 1168) accepted the offer?

According to the CDS, they admitted 1191 out of 4820 that accepted the waitlist. They do not list how many of the 1191 actually enrolled.

The student actually confirmed they were not admitted off the waitlist and had simply submitted their intent to remain on the waitlist but apparently felt compelled to put it out on social media they were accepted. :astonished:
