UC Berkeley Portal Astrology Discussion 2024

Don’t be sad. It’s way too early for reliable portal astrology. IMO just some system glitch.

Definitely not a zoom limit. Some of my friends are still able to register few minutes back and it doesn’t allow random email addresses

I know UC davis has a wave this week. Does Berkeley do waves? I think I remember one small wave couple years ago before the big one. But I could be wrong.

For anyone that tried but wasn’t able to register for the UC Berkeley sessions, you could try registering again with an email that you know has been previously used with zoom (is already linked to a zoom account). This may be a glitch with the zoom meeting configurations for the sessions.

That’s a good test! My son does use the same email for all his zoom meetings and he was able to register.

So maybe if you use a different email normally for zoom try using that one.

That makes a lot of sense. My son’s application email is a fresh Gmail he made for applications only.

My personal email that worked has been used for zoom before.

That is right. The link is managed by zoom. I created my zoom account with an email, then I call register the events now with zoom account email. Yeah…

I think this assumption is correct. Any email address used before for zoom meetings( not just uc applicant email ) it lets in. Any new email address, it blocks.

My conclusion is there is no astrology here. I feel that the email from Summer Sessions Department was premature, but other colleges are doing the same thing (sending out links to meetings only an accepted student would bother to attend). That email gives no indication of acceptance or rejection. We all just have to wait.

Has anyone else tried logging into Calnet to see if the “Forbidden” versus “unauthorized” thing from last year still exists?

UC Berkeley has confirmed the rest of the decisions will be posted on March 28. Historically only 2 waves of decisions, Early admits in February and the rest at the end of March.

Also Portal Astrology was only evident within a day or 2 before the March decisions as noted by a couple of posters.

The UC Davis decision date is predicted but not confirmed.

Maybe, but I tried every email I have used in the past and nothing works. Astrology aside, why send an email asking people to register and the link doesn’t work… very frustrating

Yes same. Poor timing. No need to send this to everyone when it’s clearly geared for admitted students.

Why send it at all before decisions are out. Maybe it was intended for early admits and some glitch sent it out to everyone instead.

so everyone got it? :frowning:

Someone should call the Office to ask what happens to registrants who don’t get accepted. That way we’ll all know…

Thanks to a post above I was able to confirm what happened to my son and likely the rest of you who were unable to register. My son received the email this morning but couldn’t register with his college app email address but I could with mine. I started to think the portal astrology might be true. But I saw the comment above about an email address not having a zoom account so I did a password reset on zoom using his email address and it stated he doesn’t have an existing zoom account. I then created a zoom account using his email address and clicked on the Cal email again to register for the sessions. This time I was able to register using his college app email address, no problem.

So that’s all this is - no portal astrology, just a zoom issue due to the applicant email address not having an existing zoom account.

Case closed.

I think we all need to chill. We will all find out on the 28th. On the 29th the sun will likely rise in the east regardless of what happens on the 28th. Berkeley is a great school, but one of many.

Ya think?!? :joy:. I don’t know why I let myself get sucked into the portal astrology stuff (though it was accurate 3 years ago, but only a day in advance). My older son is at Cal now and I think it would be fun for my younger son to join him, but I’ve gotta avoid all the speculation and just be patient. Easier said than done!
