This statement reflects UC Berkeley’s policy on alternate majors not necessarily UC Davis’ policy.
From the UCB website:
We will only guarantee a review of the primary major while alternative majors will only be used if space is available, for example, as we consider available space during the wait list process.
You are likely being admitted as an undeclared major if off waitlist.
Your stats is amazing, good enough for Cal and UCLA, why UCD and UCI has you waitlisted? I heard couple top students got walitlist offers from UC Davis today, some UC tried to protect the yield, they admitted those more “fit” applicants first, and gave waitlist offers to those highly qualified and less qualified applicants. It happened all the time.
You may want to wait couple more weeks, don’t have to accept/deny waitlist offer today.
For Computer Engineering or Computer Science, UIUC is just behind the MIT, CMU and Cal.
No, accepting the waitlist will not impact your chances at any UC.
Do campuses make their admissions decisions independently from other UC campuses?
Each UC campus evaluates each application without knowing the status of the same application at another campus. In making admission decisions, campuses do not consider where you’ve applied or your admission status to other campuses. All campuses consider your application simultaneously, yet independently of all other campuses you applied to.
Just to clarify, you could be accepted off the waitlist as Undeclared but it really depends upon your primary major and alternate major choices. Most waitlisted students admitted have been to their primary choice at UC Davis. Other UC campuses do admit a larger percentage of students into the Undeclared program.
Correct. The UC’s yield manage using historical enrollment data and projection statistics but do not purposely yield protect. You are also correct that you do emphasize “fit” based on their specific criteria.
