My son (in-state) just got off the waitlist today for Political Science. He was given 1 week to decide and has already committed to Cal Poly SLO, which had a 4.7% acceptance rate for his major this year. It’s going to be a tough decision I’m afraid since he was all set to go to SLO, but he’s feeling swayed by UC Davis being a nationally known/ranked school, whereas Cal Poly is more of a West Coast top school. That said, Cal Poly does have more items in the “plus column” for him overall than UC Davis. And, of course there’s the “inertia” factor of switching tacks at this point.

That means they have either hit their enrollment targets for the major or they are still determining the open slots based on movement off the other UC waitlists…
i feel like they should start sending out rejections if enrollment is filled or if they have very little spots to fill, its false hope

It was a long journey, with up’s and down’s. He had his heart set on UC Davis from the start. I’m glad it worked out.

right? I still feel like I manifested her acceptance as it was the only UC on her list that she got accepted to along with 4 WL and a reject from Cal. I have been laughing about my user name ever since.

Congrats to your son. I am a SLO grad and my daughter really wanted to get in. She was flat out rejected(4.0 uw/4.4 weighted and all the bells and whistles leadership, volunteer, job, etc.). In hindsight she feels that the UC path is a better fit for her career objectives (law school and the UCs have a great intern program in Sacramento and DC which I have heard good things about), but getting into SLO is HUGE. It is such a good culture too. I am pretty sure my daughter would have picked SLO over Davis given those two options. Good luck! All of this has been so intense!

Thank you so much for sharing your perspective and experience! I’m sorry about your daughter (especially since you are an alum) but glad she has found her fit. My son has stats similar to your daughter’s but his top choice was UCLA and he was rejected. It’s been such a tough year for even the best students we know with the increased volume of applications. My son is also thinking about law school, but is not certain. If he chooses Cal Poly, he would definitely consider taking advantage of the 3+3 BA/JD program partnership with UC Law San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings) to get both his BA & JD in 6 years instead of 7. However, UC Davis’s proximity to the political happenings in Sacramento is also an attractive perk! 
Well, keep us updated on what she decides—and where you will be having that fat margarita! This has been a long journey, but hopefully, it will end soon.
Our twists keep coming. S24 and my other half were excited about Davis’s admittance because it had the potential of him being close to home. Then Poly dropped this afternoon as well. The kiddo has some decisions to make and ASAP (Purdue, Poly, or Davis).
Crazy days.

S24 got off UCD waitlist today. He is Aero Eng major and in state (Bay Area). Now he has to pick between uDub and UCD. We will be happy whatever school he pick. Good luck to all of you.
