UC Davis Freshman Class of 2028 Waitlist and Appeals Discussion

Could there possibly be a wave on the 30th?

I would guess that if there is another wave, it would take place this week since the 30th is a Sunday.

Our daughter was just admitted for Chemistry. Had she been admitted back in April she would have committed. But, having been waitlisted she committed to another school that she is now excited about, so she declined the offer. Good luck to everyone.

Did you get the update today for the waiting list. All the best for your daughter.

I believe she received an email today telling her to check the portal. Thanks!

My son got off waitlist yesterday (at least that when he checked email) for Pharm. Chemistry. In-state and already committed to UCSC so he’s contemplating what to do. They gave him until July 1.

My son got off the waitlist yesterday, 6/24/24 - late afternoon, mechanical engineering. In-state. He’s committed to a private school on the east coast so has a big decision to make!

how long are they giving you to make the choice?

Do you mind sharing his stats? My son is still on the waitlist for the same major and time is running out…

They give you 7 days to commit.

got it! I saw some other UC’s only give 3 days at this late stage of acceptances.

He’s 4.3 weighted and 1470 on SAT. I think he took 9 AP classes. No sports. But here’s the thing I learned after talking with the UC Davis admissions a couple times over the last 1.5 months…drawing from the waitlist is totally random or as they put it, “unranked”. So if you’ve made it on the waitlist, you have just as good a chance making it off as anyone else on the waitlist (within your major) – regardless of your stats. Go figure. I had totally lost hope and was REALLY surprised he made it off. Now we’ll see if he decides to accept…

That’s crazy that with good stats kids can’t get in state and have to go out of state and pay higher tuition! The system is really messed up. Thank you for sharing this info from the admissions office. Good luck to your son wherever he decides to go.

any luck? they typically release on tuesdays

I’m reading that late admits aren’t always guaranteed a housing spot? Other who’ve been recently taken off admission waitlist, can you share your experience? My son is leaning towards switching to Davis at this point but I feel nervous he’ll be on another wait,it’s for housing!

This statement is from the UC Davis waitlist FAQ’s:

Rest assured, students admitted from the waitlist will have the same enrollment experience as every other student in their entering class, from their financial aid award and guaranteed housing to orientation and summer advising.

I still would call housing to confirm.

where did you read that because it’s completely wrong. Housing guaranteed first year.

quick take…SC hasn’t been doing that great and is trending down. Merced even jumped ahead of them in rankings. But that is based on one random guys’ opinion (me).

Housing is guaranteed if you register by a certain (already passed) date. Talked to admissions and they said if my son accepts, he’ll have 3 days to register for housing and will hopefully get a dorm room. He’s seriously leaning towards Davis though was excited about SC. Both good schools IMO.

Does anyone know if there will be any further acceptances? My son is coming in as a Journalism majored. He had to accept another school but we are still holding out hope for UC Davis as it is his dream school. With only a couple days left though we are definitely worried it might not happen. Would love to hear if anyone knows anything. Thanks!
